Nyad (film)
''Nyad'' is a 2023 American biographical sports drama film directed by Elizabeth Chai Vasarhelyi and Jimmy Chin, from a screenplay written by Julia Cox. It stars Annette Bening as swimmer Diana Nyad, alongside Jodie Foster and Rhys Ifans. The film is Vasarhelyi and Chin's narrative feature directorial debut and is based on Nyad's autobiography ''Find a Way''. It had its world premiere at the 50th Telluride Film Festival on September 1, 2023. It was released in select theaters on October 20, 2023, before streaming on Netflix on November 3. Elizabeth Chai Vasarhelyi
Elizabeth Chai Vasarhelyi (; born ) is an American documentary filmmaker. She was the director, along with her husband, Jimmy Chin, for the film ''Free Solo'', which won the 2019 Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature. The film profiled Alex Honnold and his free solo climb of El Capitan in June 2017. Early life and education Vasarhelyi grew up in New York City, and is the daughter of Marina Vasarhelyi, a college administrator, and Miklós Vásárhelyi, a college professor. Her father is from Hungary and her mother is from Hong Kong. Vasarhelyi is a graduate of The Brearley School. She holds a B.A. in Comparative Literature from Princeton University. Career Vasarhelyi worked in 2004 as an assistant to director Mike Nichols on the film '' Closer'' and has worked extensively with Emmy-Award-winning cinematographer Scott Duncan documenting events such as the Dakar Rally. The Telluride Film Festival (TFF) is a film festival held annually in Telluride, Colorado during Labor Day weekend (the first Monday in September). The 49th edition took place on September 2 -6, 2022. History First held on 30 August 1974, the festival, held in the Sheridan Opera House, was started by the Telluride Council for the Arts and Humanities, Bill and Stella Pence, Tom Luddy, and James Card of Eastman-Kodak Film Preserve and Scott Brown. It is operated by the National Film Preserve. In 2010, TFF partnered with UCLA School of Theater, Film and Television.
