Nurcan Baysal (*1975) is a Kurdish journalist from Turkey, based Diyarbakır. In 2018 she was named Global Laureate for Human Rights Defenders at Risk by Front Line Defenders, an Irish human rights NGO. Education Baysal studied at Ankara University Faculty of Political Science and received a masters degree from Bilkent University International Relations Department. Life In 2010 Baysal won the Women's World Summit Foundation (WWSF) prize for Women's Creativity in Rural Life. She received the prize for founding the ‘Ozyegin Foundation Rural Livelihoods program’, which sought to empower women in the Diyarbakir region. In 2012, Baysal also received a 'Turkey's Changemakers' award for her work on rural development. Baysal is a founder of the Diyarbakır Institute for Political and Social Research (DISA). Nurcan Çelik (born 1 January 1980) is a Turkish women's footballer, who last played as a goalkeeper in the Turkish Women's First Football League for Kireçburnu Spor. She played for the Turkey women's under-19 national team before she became a member of the Turkey women's team. She was the founder and president of Akdeniz Nurçelik Spor.After retiring from active playing, she became manager of the newly reestablished women's team of Galatasaray S.K. Personal life Early life Nurcan Çelik was born in a low-income family as the youngest of three children, a son and two daughters, in Artvin, northeastern Turkey on 1 January 1980. Her mother died from breast cancer when Nurcan was four years old. Her father remarried, and the family moved a couple of years later from Artvin to Bursa. Her father died when she was 16 years old. Nurcan Taylan (born 29 October 1983 in Ankara, Turkey) is a Turkish Olympic, world and European champion in weightlifting. She holds six European and one world record (and tied two more world records). She was banned by the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) after she tested positive for the anabolic steroid Methandienone for two years starting on 26 October 2011. Career She was born in Mamak, Ankara as the third child of a poor family from the town of Hafik in Sivas, Central Anatolia. Taylan was discovered at age of eleven by the Turkish national athlete and her later coach Mehmet Üstündağ as he was her teacher in physical education at the Mamak Secondary School in Ankara. Tunçbağ is a 2019 L'Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science International Rising Talent. Early life and education Tunçbağ studied chemical engineering at Istanbul Technical University. She joined Koç University for her graduate studies, earning a master's degree in computational science and engineering in 2007.
