Numit Kappa
Numit Kappa ( mni, ꯅꯨꯃꯤꯠ ꯀꯥꯞꯄ, /noo-meet kaap-pa/, Shooting of the Sun) is an ancient mythological epic literary work, written in Meitei language of Manipur. The work is believed to be written around or before 33 AD. The Epic is written in the form of partial poetry and partial prose. The epic work is still considered to be the oldest known epic account in Meitei literature. Etymology In Meitei language (officially called Manipuri language, Manipuri), "Numit" ( mni, ꯅꯨꯃꯤꯠ) means "the Sun" and "Kāppa" ( mni, ꯀꯥꯞꯄ) is derived from the root (linguistics), root word "kāp" ( mni, ꯀꯥꯞ) meaning "to shooting, shoot". Synopsis In the epic, there are two Sun Gods, who brighten the world simultaneously. One was to be slain in order to create the night. Meitei Language
Meitei (), also known as Manipuri (, ), is a Tibeto-Burman language of north-eastern India. It is spoken by around 1.8 million people, predominantly in the state of Manipur, but also by smaller communities in the rest of the country and in parts of neighbouring Myanmar and Bangladesh. Koupalu
Koupalu (also, Koubaru or Koubru) is a primordial deity in Meitei mythology and religion. He is the Guardian of the North West direction. Legend says he is the founder of civilization in Ancient Manipur, starting from the Mount Koubru, a peak where he abodes, in north-western Manipur. God Koubru resides in the Mount Koubru (Koubru Hill). Loyalakpa
Loyalakpa ( mni, ꯂꯣꯌꯥꯂꯥꯛꯄ), also spelt as Loyarakpa ( mni, ꯂꯣꯌꯥꯔꯥꯛꯄ), is a God in Meitei mythology and religion of Ancient Kangleipak (Antique Manipur). He is best known for wrestling ( mni, Mukna Kangjei) with Khoriphaba during the Lai Haraoba festival. He is the consort of goddess Thoudu Nungthel Leima. Thangching
Thangching or Thangjing is a primordial deity in Meitei mythology and religion of Ancient Kangleipak (Antique Manipur). He is the ruling deity of the Moirang dynasty of Ancient Moirang. He rules supreme on the banks of the landlocked sea, Loktak lake. He is one of the four cardinal Umang Lais. The guardianship of the south western direction is alluded to Thangjing and the other directions to Koubru (north west), Marjing (north east) and Wangbren (south east). Lainingthou Sanamahi
Laininthou Sanamahee (Meetei: ꯂꯥꯏꯅꯤꯡꯊꯧ ꯁꯥꯅꯥꯃꯍꯤ) is the Supreme Guardian God of mankind and the supreme deity of the household in Meetei religion and mythology. Pakhangba ( mni, , omp, ) is a primordial deity, often represented in the form of a dragon, in Meitei mythology and religion. He is depicted in the heraldry of Manipur kingdom, which originated in ''paphal'' ( mni, ), the mythical illustrations of the deity belonging to the traditional beliefs of Sanamahism in Manipur. Among the Meiteis, it is believed that the ancestor of one of the clans manifested himself as the Pakhangba. Ningthou was a title used for the King of Manipur. The Ningthou was used to refer to the King after the reign of Pakhangba and was a title used until King Pamheiba.
