''Nuclear Proliferation'' is a satirical card game with a theme of nuclear war published by Flying Buffalo in 1992. Description ''Nuclear Proliferation'' is a card game for 2–6 players in which players draw cards and use them to try to eliminate other players. Components The game box contains: *40 Population cards *108 Nuclear War cards *13 display boards *1 six-sided die, with the "1" replaced by a mushroom cloud *rulebook *spin arrow card Set-up Each player is given a storage board. The two decks of cards are shuffled. A number of Population cards are dealt to each player, the exact number depending on the number of players. Nine Nuclear War cards are dealt to each player. Each player in turn immediately lays down all "Secret" and "Top Secret" cards, follows the instructions of each, and then replaces them with new cards from the Nuclear War deck. A card game is any game using playing cards as the primary device with which the game is played, be they traditional or game-specific. Flying Buffalo Inc. (FBI) is a game company with a line of role playing games, card games, and other gaming materials. The company's founder, Rick Loomis, began game publishing with ''Nuclear Destruction'', a play-by-mail game which started the professional PBM industry in the United States. Loomis added games and players while introducing Play-by-mail game#Computer versus human moderated, computer moderation and soon incorporated into the company Flying Buffalo Inc. A mushroom cloud is a distinctive mushroom-shaped flammagenitus cloud of debris, smoke and usually condensed water vapor resulting from a large explosion. The effect is most commonly associated with a nuclear explosion, but any sufficiently energetic detonation or deflagration will produce the same effect. They can be caused by powerful conventional weapons, like thermobaric weapons, including the ATBIP and GBU-43/B Massive Ordnance Air Blast. ''Nuclear War'' is a List of collectible card games#Collectible common-deck card games, collectible common-deck card game designed by Douglas Malewicki and originally published in 1965 that is a satirical simulation of an end-of-the-world scenario fought mostly with nuclear weapons. Rick Swan is a game designer and author who worked for TSR. His work for TSR, mostly for Advanced Dungeons & Dragons, appeared from 1989 to 1995. TSR (company)
TSR, Inc. was an American game publishing company, best known as the original publisher of ''Dungeons & Dragons'' (''D&D''). Its earliest incarnation, Tactical Studies Rules, was founded in October 1973 by Gary Gygax and Don Kaye. Gygax had been unable to find a publisher for ''D&D'', a new type of game he and Dave Arneson were co-developing, so founded the new company with Kaye to self-publish their products. Needing financing to bring their new game to market, Gygax and Kaye brought in Brian Blume in December as an equal partner. ''Dungeons & Dragons'' is generally considered the first tabletop role-playing game (TTRPG), and established the genre. Origins Award
The Origins Awards are American awards for outstanding work in the game industry. They are presented by the Academy of Adventure Gaming Arts and Design at the Origins Game Fair on an annual basis for the previous year, so (for example) the 1979 awards were given at the 1980 Origins. The Origins Award is commonly referred to as a Calliope, as the statuette is in the likeness of the muse of the same name. Academy members frequently shorten this name to "Callie". ''White Wolf'' is a game magazine that was published by White Wolf Publishing from 1986 to 1995. History While still in high school, Stewart Wieck and Steve Wieck decided to self-publish their own magazine, and Steve chose the name "White Wolf" after Elric of Melniboné. ''White Wolf'' #1 was published by their White Wolf Publishing in August 1986 and distributors began to order the magazine a few issues later as its print runs continued to increase. In 1990, Lion Rampant and White Wolf Publishing decided to merge into a new company that was simply called "White Wolf", and in an editorial in the magazine Stewart Weick explained that the magazine would remain independent despite the company's interest in role-playing production.
