Nuatali Nelmes
Nuatali Josephine Nelmes is an Australian politician. She has been the Labor Lord Mayor of Newcastle since 15 November 2014, when she was elected in a by-election. Nelmes is the youngest Lord Mayor of Newcastle. Nelmes studied a business degree in industrial relations and marketing at the University of Newcastle, and joined the Labor Party when she was 20. She was elected to the City of Newcastle council in 2008, succeeding her father, long-serving Labor councillor Paul Scobie. She was the Labor candidate for Lord Mayor at the 2012 election, and was endorsed by former state MP Jodi McKay, but was defeated by developer and conservative independent candidate Jeff McCloy. She stood for the Senate in the unwinnable fifth position on the Labor ticket at the 2013 federal election, and nominated for preselection for the 2014 Newcastle state by-election, losing to fellow councillor Tim Crakanthorp. Joy Cummings
Joyce Anne Cummings, ( Plumbe; 23 December 1923 – 1 July 2003) was an Australian politician. She was the Lord Mayor of Newcastle, and Australia's first female Lord Mayor, from 1974 to 1976 and again from 1977 until 1984, when she retired from politics following a severe stroke. Personal life Cummings was born Joyce Anne Plumbe on 23 December 1923 at Ramsgate, New South Wales, to Charlotte and Dallas Plumbe. She moved to the Newcastle area at the onset of the Second World War when her father, a fireman, was transferred to the Scott Street Brigade. It was here that she met and married Ray Cummings, who was also a fireman, together raising a family of four children. Cummings is the maternal grandmother of actress Sarah Wynter. The Newcastle Art Gallery (formerly the Newcastle City Art Gallery, Newcastle Region Art Gallery) is a large, public art museum in Newcastle, New South Wales, Australia. History Founded in 1945 with an art collection consisting of 123 works donated by Roland Pope which was conditional on the construction of a gallery to hold it, the museum opened its doors in 1957 and moved to a new, purpose-built museum building in 1977. As a Sydneysider, Pope's collection reflect was Sydney centric. Under the directorships of the gallery's first two directors Gil Docking and David Thomas, both from Melbourne, saw the collection expand to include artists from Melbourne and Adelaide. Newcastle Railway Line
The Newcastle railway line is a branch railway line in the city of Newcastle, New South Wales, Australia. The line branches off the Main North line at Broadmeadow and travels in an easterly direction through the inner suburbs to Newcastle Interchange, with one intermediate station at Hamilton. Until its curtailment in December 2014, it extended to Newcastle station. NSW TrainLink operates electric passenger train services over this line as part of its Central Coast & Newcastle Line service, and diesel railcars to Maitland and beyond as part of the Hunter Line.
