Noxville, Texas
Noxville is a ghost town on the James River, east of Junction on Ranch to Market Road 479, in Kimble County, in the U.S. state of Texas. History Noxville has actually had two locations in the area. Old Noxville was the site of the 1879 post office, begun by Noah Nox (also Knox), in his general store on the Little Devil's River. His wife Persis was the first postmaster. When James Milam became the postmaster in 1911, he moved the post office and town to the west side of the James River. Among the first nonindigenous residents of the area in addition to Nox were farmers and ranchers Creed Taylor, Munroe McDonald, and James H. Parker. Parker was originally from Alabama and settled in the area at the end of the Civil War. He had been a second lieutenant in the 30th Texas Cavalry and eventually owned 12,000 acres in the area. James River (Texas)
The James River is located in Kimble and Mason Counties, in the U.S. state of Texas. The Llano River in Mason County is the location of the mouth of the James River, and it flows southeast for past the Kimble County ghost town of Noxville. The river intersects with the James River Spring and with the Little Devils River in southeastern Kimble County. The valleys along the James River became sites for 19th-century European settlements. The Texas Hill Country is a geographic region of Central and South Texas, forming the southeast part of the Edwards Plateau. Given its location, climate, terrain, and vegetation, the Hill Country can be considered the border between the American Southeast and Southwest. Harper is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP), located west of Fredericksburg on U.S. Highway 290, in Gillespie County, in the U.S. state of Texas. The population was 1,192 at the 2010 census. Geography Harper is located in western Gillespie County at (30.301009, -99.243326). This is about northwest of San Antonio and west of Austin. According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of , of which are land and , or 0.14%, is covered by water. The headwaters of the Pedernales River flow through the community. Junction is a city in and the seat of Kimble County, Texas, United States. Its population was 2,574 at the 2010 census. Geography Junction is located at (30.489772, –99.771335), about northwest of San Antonio and west of Austin in central Kimble County. Interstate 10 runs through the northern and eastern parts of the city, with access from Exits 456 and 457. I-10 leads southeast to Kerrville and beyond to San Antonio, and west to Sonora. U.S. Route 83 follows I-10 past Junction, leading north to Menard and south to Uvalde. U.S. Route 377 passes through the center of Junction as Main Street and 11th Street. The Geographic Names Information System (GNIS) is a database of name and locative information about more than two million physical and cultural features throughout the United States and its territories, Antarctica, and the associated states of the Marshall Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, and Palau.
