Nowa Motława
Nowa Motława () is a branch of the Motława river in the district (dzielnica) Śródmieście of the city of Gdańsk in Poland. It was artificially created in 1576. Nowa Motława and Motława are forming Granary Island ( pl, Wyspa Spichrzów, german: Speicherinsel). History The Motława river is the oldest part of the trade port. On the eastern bank granaries had been erected since the 14th century. The dug-through of Nowa Motława was made in 1576. The water was regulated by the Stone Lock (''Kamienna Śluza''). In 1997, the Marina Gdańsk () was created in the northern part of Nowa Motława. It has a length of 290 meters. Motława
Motława (; csb, Mòtława) is a river in Pomerelia, Eastern Pomerania in Poland. The source is in Szpęgawskie Lake, northeast from the town of Starogard Gdański. It goes through Rokickie Lake to Martwa Wisła, a branch of the Vistula. The total length of the river is estimated at 68 km, with an area of 1511.3 km². A lock is a device used for raising and lowering boats, ships and other watercraft between stretches of water of different levels on river and canal waterways. Granary
A granary is a storehouse or room in a barn for threshed grain or animal feed. Ancient or primitive granaries are most often made of pottery. Granaries are often built above the ground to keep the stored food away from mice and other animals and from floods. Early origins From ancient times grain has been stored in bulk. The oldest granaries yet found date back to 9500 BC and are located in the Pre-Pottery Neolithic A settlements in the Jordan Valley. The first were located in places between other buildings. However beginning around 8500 BC, they were moved inside houses, and by 7500 BC storage occurred in special rooms. Martwa Wisła
The Martwa Wisła (; german: Tote Weichsel; both literally "dead Vistula") is a river, one of the branches of the Vistula, flowing through the city of Gdańsk in northern Poland. It got its name when this branch of the river became increasingly moribund. A harbor canal was constructed with the Westerplatte on one of its banks.
