Novigrad, Istria County
Novigrad ( it, Cittanova) is a town in Istria County in western Croatia. It is also sometimes referred to as Novigrad Istarski () to distinguish it from three other Croatian towns of the same name. Novigrad is set on a small peninsula on the western coast of Istria, north of the mouth of the river Mirna and some south of the border with Slovenia. At the 2011 census the town proper had a population of 2,622, while the administrative area – which also includes four nearby villages – had 4,345 inhabitants. 66% of population were ethnic Croats while the biggest minority group were Istrian Italians (10%). History There was an ancient city in the broad area of what is now Novigrad, which was called Aemona. In the 5th-6th centuries Novigrad was called ''Neapolis'' (Greek Νεάπολις). Novigrad, Zadar County
Novigrad is a village and municipality in Croatia in the Zadar County. According to the 2011 census, there were 2,375 inhabitants, absolute majority of which were Croats. History In 1386, the Hungarian and Croatian sovereign Mary and her mother, Elizabeth of Bosnia, were imprisoned in Novigrad. Elizabeth was strangled in Novigrad in 1387 but Mary was liberated. It was part of Republic of Venice in 1409. Venetian rule in Novigrad briefly interrupted by Ottoman occupation between 1646 and 1647 during Cretan War. Novigrad Podravski
Novigrad Podravski is a municipality in the Koprivnica-Križevci County in Croatia. According to the 2011 census, there are 2,872 inhabitants in the area, with Croats forming a majority at 94.5%. History In the late 19th century and early 20th century, Novigrad Podravski was part of the Bjelovar-Križevci County of the Kingdom of Croatia-Slavonia. Religion Serbian Orthodox Church of Lazarus of Bethany, Lazarus of the Four Days was built in the village of Plavšinac in 1758. Its iconostasis was painted by the Montenegrins, Montenegrin painter Atanas Bocarić. Two of its icons are exhibited in the Museum of the Serbian Orthodox Church in Zagreb. The Witcher
''The Witcher'' ( pl, Wiedźmin ) is a series of six fantasy novels and 15 short stories written by Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski. The series revolves around the eponymous "witcher", Geralt of Rivia. In Sapkowski's works, "witchers" are beast hunters who develop supernatural abilities at a young age to battle wild beasts and monsters. ''The Witcher'' began with a titular 1986 short story that Sapkowski entered into a competition held by ''Fantastyka'' magazine, marking his debut as an author. Due to reader demand, Sapkowski wrote 14 more stories before starting a series of novels in 1994. Known as ''The Witcher Saga'', he wrote one book a year until the fifth and final installment in 1999. A standalone prequel novel, ''Season of Storms'', was published in 2013. The books have been described as having a cult following in Poland and Central and Eastern European countries.
