Presidential elections were held in Haiti on 20 November 2016, after having been postponed several times. 2015 Haitian Presidential Election
Presidential elections were held in Haiti on 25 October 2015, alongside local elections and the second round of the legislative elections. Incumbent President Michel Martelly was constitutionally barred from running. As no candidate received a majority of the vote in the first round, a runoff was to be held on 27 December 2015. On 22 December the Conseil Electoral Provisoire (CEP) announced that the runoff has been postponed indefinitely. However, on 1 January 2016 President Michel Martelly announced that the runoff would be held on 17 January, but on 7 January the President changed the date to 24 January. On 20 January, Jude Célestin issued a statement that calls "whatever the person who will participate in this January 24 unoff is a traitor to the Nation". Jean-Bertrand Aristide
Jean-Bertrand Aristide (born 15 July 1953) is a Haitian former Salesian priest and politician who became Haiti's first democratically elected president. A proponent of liberation theology, Aristide was appointed to a parish in Port-au-Prince in 1982 after completing his studies to become a priest. He became a focal point for the pro-democracy movement first under Jean-Claude "Baby Doc" Duvalier and then under the military transition regime which followed. He won the 1990–91 Haitian general election, with 67% of the vote. As a priest, he taught liberation theology and, as a president, he attempted to normalize Afro-Creole culture, including Vodou religion, in Haiti. René Garcia Préval (; 17 January 1943 – 3 March 2017) was a Haitian politician and agronomist who served twice as President of Haiti; once from early 1996 to early 2001, and again from mid 2006 to mid 2011. He was also Prime Minister from early to late 1991 under the presidency of Jean-Bertrand Aristide. Michel Martelly
Michel Joseph Martelly (; born 12 February 1961) is a Haitian musician and politician who was the President of Haiti from May 2011 until February 2016. He was sanctioned by the Canadian Government for his involvement in human rights violations and supporting criminal gangs on 17 November 2022. Martelly was one of Haiti's best-known musicians for over a decade, going by the stage name Sweet Micky. For business and musical reasons, Martelly has moved a number of times between the United States and Haiti. When travelling to the United States, Martelly mostly stays in Florida. Jean Henry Céant (born 27 September 1956) is a Haitian politician who was the twenty-first Prime Minister of Haiti. He was sanctioned by the Canadian Government for his involvement in human rights violations and supporting criminal gangs on 17 November 2022. Prime Minister Céant was chosen by President Jovenel Moïse to become Prime Minister of Haiti in August 2018. He was chosen to succeed Jack Guy Lafontant, who had resigned due to an economic crisis. Céant is a notary by profession and was a presidential candidate in 2016. Ceant also leads a political organization called Renmen Ayiti. History The party was created shortly before the 2006 elections by Serge Gilles, who in 2004 created the Haitian Socialist Grand Party (''Grand Parti Socialiste Haïtien'', GPSH). Edmonde Supplice Beauzile
Edmonde Supplice Beauzile (born October 14, 1961) is a Haitian politician. She served in the Chamber of Deputies and Senate and was leader of the Fusion of Haitian Social Democrats from 2011 to 2018. She was born in Belladère and grew up there and in Maïssade. She was educated at the Lycée Marie-Jeanne and the École Normale Supérieure. She went on to study legal sciences at the Université d'État d'Haïti and received a master's degree in education from the Université de Montréal in 1993. Beauzile served as a member of the Chamber of Deputies from 1990 to 1994 and as a member of the Haitian senate from 2006 to 2012. She also served as the senate's vice-president.
