Novamedia
Novamedia was started in 1983 by Boudewijn Poelmann and his wife Annemiek Hoogenboom. In 1989, Poelmann joined forces with Simon Jelsma, Frank Leeman en Herman de Jong to establish the Dutch National Postcode Lottery. In 2002, Novamedia took over the operations of the Bankgiroloterij. In 2009 the Charity Lotteries operated by Novamedia produced a turnover of more than 728 million euros, of which more than 364 million euros was divided among the charities. Boudewijn Poelmann
Boudewijn Poelmann (born 3 February 1949, Bussum) is a Dutch entrepreneur and co-founder of the Netherlands's Nationale Postcode Lottery. In 1983, he helped to start the media company, Novamedia. Before establishing Novamedia in 1983, he worked with DAF and Oxfam Novib (Dutch organization for international development aid). At Oxfam Novib he was responsible for fundraising and oversaw its publishing house. In addition, he acquired experience in European TV, telephone and printed media businesses. Until September 1992 he was also the director of Inter Press Service, Europe. Poelmann is one of the founders/owners of ''Independent Media'', which became the second largest publishing house in the Russian Federation. He was the chairman of the board of directors until 2004 when Independent Media was sold to Sanoma Publishing. In 2004, he co-founded City AM, a daily financial newspaper in London. Dutch National Postcode Lottery
The Nationale Postcode Loterij (National Postcode Lottery) is the biggest charity lottery in the Netherlands. It was founded in 1989 by Novamedia, a marketing agency that sets up and runs charity lotteries. Forty percent of the proceeds of this lottery are donated amongst 81 charities, which, in 2010 amounted to over 270 million euros. Prize winners are the lot owners whose postal code, a code that forms part of the winners' residential address, has been drawn. Hence even if not participating one may still find out that one would have won had one played. Anticipations of post-decisional regret influence decisions to play the Postcode lottery. BankGiroLoterij was the name of a Dutch professional road bicycle racing team. The main sponsor from 1999 to 2004 was a Dutch lottery operator BankGiro Loterij . No sponsor was available for 2005, so the team disbanded. At that time, they were placed 29th in Division 1 in the UCI Road World Rankings.
