Nova Scotia Keltics
The Nova Scotia Keltics were a rugby team in Halifax, Nova Scotia that competed in the Rugby Canada Super League. They played their home games alternatively at the Wanderers Grounds and Graves-Oakley Memorial Park. History The club was one of the founding members of the Rugby Canada Super League in 1998. The Keltics played in the MacTier Cup final in 1998 (as the Nova Scotia Keiths) and in 2000, losing on both occasions. Defence Minister Peter MacKay made his return at inside centre for the Keltics on May 19, 2008 in a 49–5 away loss to the Niagara Thunder. In 2009, Rugby Canada decided to disband the RCSL and replace it with a new U-20 league called the Rugby Canada National Junior Championship. The Keltics were chosen as one of the remaining RCSL clubs to enter the newly formed league. The Nova Scotia Rugby Union (ORU) also known as Rugby Nova Scotia is the provincial governing body for the sport of rugby union in the Canadian province of Nova Scotia and a Provincial Union of Rugby Canada. Rugby Nova Scotia governs various levels of rugby (Mini-Rugby, Under-12, Under-14, Under-16, Under-18, Senior, Masters, Non-contact). Rugby Canada Super League
The Rugby Canada Super League (RCSL or Super League) was a national, semi-professional rugby union competition in Canada. The league represented the second level of domestic rugby union in Canada, and the highest level wholly indigenous to Canada. In terms of seniority it rested immediately beneath the IRB sponsored North America 4, a former US/Canadian cross-border competition in which two Canadian teams (Canada East (rugby team), Canada East and Canada West (rugby team), Canada West) took part. Most players took part in RCSL ("Super League") on an amateur basis. In early 2009, after 11 seasons of play, Rugby Canada decided to disband the RCSL in the wake of the establishment of the Americas Rugby Championship, the successor to the North America 4. Wanderers Grounds
Wanderers Grounds is a sporting complex in Halifax, Nova Scotia, and home to Canadian Premier League professional soccer club HFX Wanderers FC. The grounds were originally part of the Halifax Commons. The land was used in the 1880s by the Halifax Wanderers Amateur Athletic Club (WAAC) and was their home grounds for the sports of rugby and lawn bowling. Leased to the club in the 1800s, the club failed to pay its lease fees during the Second World War and the land's use reverted to the City of Halifax (Halifax Regional Municipality) who have maintained it since then. The Wanderers Grounds was also the home of the Halifax Pelham Canadians of the Nova Scotia Senior Baseball league 1977–2008. Years prior, Babe Ruth made an appearance at the grounds in 1942 during a navy baseball game between Halifax and Toronto. He faced Halifax pitcher Awkie Titus but failed to hit a home run. MacTier Cup
The MacTier Cup is the name of the championship for the top senior men's rugby league in Canada. Originally awarded to the champion of the Rugby Canada Super League (RCSL), the MacTier Cup was established in 1998 along with the RCSL. The first MacTier Cup Championship match was played between the Vancouver Island Crimson Tide and the Nova Scotia Keltics, Nova Scotia Keiths. Vancouver Island defeated Halifax in that game. The champions of the final RCSL championship were the Newfoundland Rock, who won the cup in 2008 after defeating the Calgary Mavericks 30–6. Since 2009, the Cup has been awarded to the winners of the Canadian Rugby Championship (CRC). Peter MacKay
Peter Gordon MacKay (born September 27, 1965) is a Canadian lawyer and politician. He was a Member of Parliament from 1997 to 2015 and has served as Minister of Justice and Attorney General (2013–2015), Minister of National Defence (2007–2013), and Minister of Foreign Affairs (2006–2007) in the Cabinet of Canada under Prime Minister Stephen Harper. The Niagara Lightning (formerly Niagara Thunder) are Canadian rugby union team based in southern Ontario. The Rugby Canada National Junior Championship was an amateur rugby union competition in Canada. It only lasted two seasons, 2009 and 2010. The 2009 champion was the Vancouver Wave, and the 2010 championship went to the Newfoundland Rock. The league was created when Rugby Canada disbanded the Rugby Canada Super League (RCSL) and replace it with a new under-20 league. The league consisted of 12 teams, and was broken up into four divisions; Pacific, Prairie, Central, and Atlantic.
