Notwist
The Notwist are a German indie rock band. Formed in 1989, the band moved through several musical incarnations, despite maintaining a relatively stable line-up. While their early records moved through heavy metal into dark indie rock, their recent efforts for which they have received the most attention have been strongly influenced by the electronica scene, along with the other groups on the record label, Morr Music. History The Acher brothers and Messerschmid formed the group in 1989, in Weilheim in Oberbayern, near Munich. In 1990, they recorded their self-titled debut, a grunge-metal oriented LP. 1992 saw the release of ''Nook'', which has an indie rock sound, while their 1995 album ''12'', contains their first flirtation with electronics. It was released on 25 February 2014 under Sub Pop in the United States. Critical reception At Metacritic, which assigns a weighted average score out of 100 to reviews from mainstream critics, the album received an average score of 75% based on 23 reviews, indicating "generally favorable reviews". The band incorporates elements of electronic music. The band consists of Miriam Osterrieder (vocals, keyboard), Christoph Brandner (drums), Axel Fischer (MS10, guitar), Michael Schwaiger (keyboard, pad), Anton Kaun (visuals), and Martin Gretschmann (computer). Born in Bavaria, Martin Gretschmann started playing bass in various independent rock bands as early as the early 1990s with Axel Fischer, Matthias Laub, and Christian Schröcker, and played numerous concerts (including supporting The Notwist tour). The first publication of three electronic pieces under the name Console took place in 1995 via the indie label Kollaps on the sampler The Day My Favorite Insect Died. 13 & God
13 & God is a collaboration between American indie hip hop duo Themselves and German indie rock band The Notwist. The group is signed both to Anticon and Alien Transistor. History The band's name 13 & God stems from the concept of the 12 apostles and Jesus Christ forming a group that comprises 13 mortal men as well as God. Distinguishing between Themselves and The Notwist in the context of which group is '13' and which is 'God' is thus disingenuous. In the example above, God is inherently contained within '13', creating a symbiotic relationship so strong it is unable to be severed. As 13 & God are not a Christian group, but do explore elements of philosophy, spirituality and existentialism, the name 13 & God is generally considered to be more of a reflection of those elements, as well as the concept of 'identity' itself. Four Tet
Kieran Hebden (born September 1977), known as Four Tet, is an English electronic musician. He came to prominence as a member of the post-rock band Fridge before establishing himself as a solo artist with charting UK albums such as '' Rounds'' (2003) and ''Everything Ecstatic'' (2005). In addition to his eleven studio albums as Four Tet, Hebden's work includes a number of improvisational works with jazz drummer Steve Reid and collaborations with Burial and Thom Yorke. Alongside his own recordings, Hebden has produced albums by American improvisational group Sunburned Hand of the Man and Syrian dabke singer Omar Souleyman, and arranged the 2021 Madlib album ''Sound Ancestors''. Cynthia Dall (born Cynthia Meggin Loya) (March 12, 1971 – April 5, 2012), sometimes known as "Cindy Dall", was an American lo-fi musician and photographer. Dall also gained notoriety in the fanzine world of the 1990s for her frequent transgressive-styled cover shots and appearances in Lisa Carver's '' Rollerderby'' magazine. Dall was born in Roseville, California. She started recording and performing with then-boyfriend, Bill Callahan under his former moniker, Smog. She first appeared on the Smog song "Wine Stained Lips", which was a B-side to the 1994 "A Hit" 7" single. Dall went on to contribute vocals and guitar on the ''Burning Kingdom'' EP, '' Wild Love'', and '' The Doctor Came at Dawn'', and she toured with Smog in the US and Europe in 1995. Panda Bear (musician)
Noah Benjamin Lennox (born July 17, 1978), also known by his moniker Panda Bear, is an American musician, singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and co-founding member of the band Animal Collective. In addition to his work with that group, Lennox has released six solo LPs since 1999, with his influential 2007 album '' Person Pitch'' inspiring numerous subsequent acts. His subsequent albums ''Tomboy'' (2011) and ''Panda Bear Meets the Grim Reaper'' (2015) both reached the ''Billboard'' 200. Lennox was primarily raised in Baltimore, Maryland, where he sang tenor in his high school chamber choir, and studied piano and cello. Anticon (often styled as anticon.) is an independent record label based in Los Angeles, California. It was founded in 1998 by seven musicians and manager Baillie Parker.
