The Dykeenies
The Dykeenies are a Scottish indie rock band from Cumbernauld, formed in 2005. The group consists of brothers Brian Henderson (vocals, synthesizers) and Andrew Henderson (bass guitar, backing vocals), along with Steven Ramsay (lead guitar, backing vocals) and John Kerr ( drums, backing vocals). Since their formation, they have released one studio album, '' Nothing Means Everything'', accompanied by three singles. After a worldwide tour, the band began work on their second album, which was released in October 2011. They broke up in January 2012, before re-forming for two performances in 2017. The Dykeenies released their EP 'I Wanted To Show Her All The Beautiful Things in the World' on 11 May 2018. The title of the 2018 EP was taken from Bret Ellis-Easton's 'American Psycho'. The volta (plural: voltas) (Italian: "the turn" or "turning") is an anglicised name for a dance for couples that was popular during the later Renaissance period. This dance was associated with the galliard and done to the same kind of music. Its main figure consisted of a turn and lift in a sort of closed position, which could be done either to the right or to the left. It is also called La volta, Volta, Volte. Spelling variants include la volta and levolto; its name is ''la volte'' in French and ''la volta'' in Italian. It was considered at first to be risque and controversial. New Ideas (song)
"New Ideas" is the debut single by Scottish new wave/indie rock act The Dykeenies. It was first released as a Double A-side with "Will It Happen Tonight?" on 17 July 2006. The band also recorded a video for the track. The song was released on King Tut's Recordings, a minor label created through Glaswegian venue King Tut's Wah Wah Hut in order to expose small unknown artists to more major record labels. The concept worked, and following the release of the single, the band were signed tLavolta Records The track was re-recorded and then re-released on 9 April 2007. A new video for the track was also made. The track was released on CD with new acoustic track "Safe", a remix of "New Ideas" by dance act Kissy Sell Out (another signing of Lavolta) titled "New Ideas issy Sell Out Crude Oasis and the video to their previous release, "Waiting For Go".
