''Not a Drum Was Heard'' is a 1924 American silent Western film directed by William A. Wellman. The title is taken from the first line of Charles Wolfe's poem "The Burial of Sir John Moore after Corunna": Plot As described in a film magazine review, Jack Mills and Bud Loupel; they ride the ranch together, rescue each other from certain death, and fall in love with Jean Ross. She selects Bud to be the lucky one. Married life starts in a bungalow acquired on the installment plan from the town banker Rand, who also had courted Jean. Bud obtains employment at the bank as a teller. He falls into a trap set by Rand and steals funds. Jack hears of it, stages a holdup to cover the money, and tries to assume all blame. However, Bud has been mortally wounded and, in the mix-up, exonerates his friend before he dies. William Wellman
William Augustus Wellman (February 29, 1896 – December 9, 1975) was an American film director, producer, screenwriter, actor and military pilot. He was known for his work in crime, adventure, and action genre films, often focusing on aviation themes, a particular passion. He also directed several well-regarded satirical comedies. A hire purchase (HP), also known as an installment plan, is an arrangement whereby a customer agrees to a contract to acquire an asset by paying an initial installment (e.g., 40% of the total) and repaying the balance of the price of the asset plus interest over a period of time. Other analogous practices are described as closed-end leasing or rent to own. In other words installment means to let a thing without giving total price while payment will be given in a given time period. The buyer will pay monthly agreement installment. A lost film is a feature or short film that no longer exists in any studio archive, private collection, public archive or the U.S. Library of Congress. Conditions During most of the 20th century, U.S. copyright law required at least one copy of every American film to be deposited at the Library of Congress at the time of copyright registration, but the Librarian of Congress was not required to retain those copies: "Under the provisions of the act of March 4, 1909, authority is granted for the return to the claimant of copyright of such copyright deposits as are not required by the Library." Mickey McBan
Mickey McBan (February 27, 1919 – October 30, 1979) was an American child actor. He was born in Spokane, Washington to British theatrical parents. McBan began his acting career at the age of four in ''Poor Men's Wives'' and specialized in portraying the everyday youngster in many films. In ''The Moving Picture Boy,'' John Holmstrom describes him as "mid-way between Jackie Cooper and John Howard Davies: mousier than the one, spunkier than the other, with an amused, reassuring expression."
