Richard Shindell
Richard Shindell (born August 3, 1960) is an American folk singer, songwriter, producer, and musician. Shindell grew up in Port Washington, New York, and now lives in Buenos Aires, Argentina, with his wife, Lila Caimari, a university professor, and their children. Shindell's career received a boost in 1997 when Joan Baez recorded three of his songs ("Fishing", "Reunion Hill", and "Money for Floods") for her album ''Gone from Danger'' and invited the aspiring singer-songwriter to join her 1997–98 tour. Shindell collaborated with Dar Williams and Lucy Kaplansky to form the group Cry Cry Cry. On their eponymous 1998 album, Cry Cry Cry covered an eclectic mix of songwriters. The trio toured in support of their album before resuming solo careers. In 2017-2018 the group reunited briefly. The resulting tour culminated in a live recording of their final show on April 15, 2018, at The Freight and Salvage in Berkeley, CA, all proceeds of which went to support Live Music Society. A ... Signature Sounds
Signature Sounds Recordings is an independent record label specializing in Americana and modern folk music. Jim Olsen and Mark Thayer founded the label in 1995 to promote acoustic musicians who were playing in Northampton, Massachusetts. Signature recorded Josh Ritter, Erin McKeown, Mary Gauthier, and Lori McKenna. The label's albums are distributed worldwide by Redeye Distribution. History Thayer established the Signature Sounds Recording Studio in 1982 and created the label with Olsen in 1995. The studio in Pomfret, Connecticut has recorded folk and jazz musicians, including many Signature Sounds recordings. The label's main office moved in 2012 from its original location in Whately, Massachusetts to a more prominent site in downtown Northampton. The new offices include an intimate music venue, called The Parlor Room, in which concerts are held regularly. ''South of Delia'' is the seventh solo album by American folk singer-songwriter Richard Shindell. ''South of Delia'' is a cover album. Although he himself is sometimes described as a "songwriter's songwriter," covers are not new to Shindell. In addition to recording a few on his previous solo albums, he was also one third of the folk supergroup / cover band Cry Cry Cry (along with Dar Williams and Lucy Kaplansky). On ''South of Delia'', Shindell covers songs from several songwriting legends, including Woody Guthrie and Bob Dylan, as well as some from younger up-and-coming writer/performers, such as Jeffrey Foucault and Josh Ritter. Silvio Rodríguez Domínguez (born 29 November 1946) is a Cuban musician, and leader of the Nueva Trova movement. Seth Glier () is an American singer-songwriter, pianist, guitarist, and activist. Career Seth Glier was born in Shelburne Falls, MA. and subsequently studied at Pioneer Valley Performing Arts Charter School PVPA in South Hadley, Massachusetts. He attended Berklee College of Music for a year before dropping out to be able to tour full-time. Since then, he has averaged over 200 shows a year, and shared stages with artists such as James Taylor, Mark Knopfler, The Verve Pipe, Edwin McCain and Ani DiFranco. Lisa Gutkin is an American violinist, singer and songwriter of The Klezmatics. She played in Sting's The Last Ship, had a cameo appearance in “Sex and the City,” and is a MacDowell Fellow at the MacDowell Colony. Lucy Kaplansky (born February 16, 1960) is an American Folk music, folk musician based in New York City. Kaplansky has a PhD in clinical psychology from Yeshiva University and plays guitar, mandolin, and piano. Life and career Kaplansky was originally from Chicago; her father was the noted mathematician Irving Kaplansky (1917–2006). Later, she would sometimes perform math-related songs composed by her father, who was also an accomplished pianist. At the age of 18, she decided not to go to college, but moved to New York City, where she became involved in the city's folk music scene, particularly around Greenwich Village, where she played with, among others, Suzanne Vega, Shawn Colvin and Richard Shindell. Viktor Krauss
Viktor Krauss is an American musician who plays acoustic and electric bass. He has released solo albums and has worked as a sideman with many musicians, including his sister, singer and fiddler Alison Krauss. Music career Krauss was born to Fred and Louise, and raised in Champaign, Illinois. As a boy, he enjoyed listening to soundtracks. He started on piano and trumpet before moving on to playing double bass with local jazz groups in his early teens. In high school, he began composing music and was influenced by rock, soul, and R&B.
