Norwegian Union Of Municipal Employees
The Norwegian Union of Municipal Employees ( no, Norsk Kommuneforbund, NKF) was a trade union in Norway, organized under the national Norwegian Confederation of Trade Unions. It was founded in 1920 as the Norwegian Municipal Workers' Union, a split from the Norwegian Union of General Workers. Its chairman the first fifteen years was Gunnar Sethil. On founding, it had 3,280 members, and this grew steadily. The Norwegian Tramway Union merged in during 1921, followed by the National Association of Municipal Officials in 1923, following which, it renamed itself as the NKF. The Norwegian Fire Brigade Union joined in 1925, followed by the Norwegian Hospital Staff Union in 1931, and the Norwegian Barbers' and Hairdressers' Union in 1937. The union's membership boomed after World War II, and it had 240,000 members in 2000, making it LO's largest affiliate. Jan Davidsen (born 24 July 1950) is a Norwegian trade unionist. He is a firefighter by vocation and worked as such in Bergen. He was elected to the leadership in the Norwegian Union of Municipal Employees in 1985, became deputy leader in 1990 and leader in 1994. When this union merged to form the Norwegian Union of Municipal and General Employees in 2003, Davidsen served as leader until 2013. Liv Nilsson
Liv Solbjørg Nilsson (28 January 1943 – 4 July 1994) was a Norwegian trade unionist and politician for the Labour Party. By vocation, she was an office clerk at Bodø Hospital. She was elected as leader of the Norwegian Union of Municipal Employees in Nordland, later advancing to the national leadership. In 1982, she was elected as leader-designate, as it was known that the current leader would retire in 1985. She chaired the Union of Municipal Employees from 1985 to her death in 1994. During her reign, the union reached the milestone of 200,000 members. She was also a member of Bodø municipal council, from 1985 to her death a secretariat member of the Norwegian Confederation of Trade Unions, and from 1985 to 1992 a central board member of the Labour Party. Erling Olsen (trade Unionist)
Erling Olsen (1901–1983) was a Norwegian trade unionist. He was a trade unionist before the war, a secretary in Norwegian Union of Municipal Employees. He was also a member of '' Mot Dag'' for some time. From 1940 Norway was occupied by Nazi Germany. Together with people like Håkon Meyer and Kåre Rein he joined '' Fagopposisjonen av 1940'' in 1940 and the Fascist party Nasjonal Samling in December 1940. Following the Milk strike a more Nazi-friendly leadership was installed in the Norwegian Confederation of Trade Unions, with Odd Fossum as leader, Erling Olsen as deputy leader and Kåre Rein as secretary. (''The Laborers' Encyclopedia'') is a Norwegian encyclopedia published in six volumes in the 1930s. It was the first reference book in Norwegian to have a pronounced class bias, and the first encyclopedia outside of the Soviet Union to be directed specifically at the working class. The publication had a connection with the Norwegian labor movement's goal to spread knowledge among the working and lower class, and in doing so could break the monopoly the middle class had on the dissemination of information in society. They thought that the existing encyclopedias had a middle class bias. The idea of such an encyclopedia came within the group that produced the laborers' magazine '' Arbeidermagasinet''.
