Norwegian Maritime Officers' Association
The Norwegian Maritime Officers' Union ( no, Norsk Sjøoffisersforbund, NSOF) is a trade union representing navigators and those in similar roles in Norway. The union was founded in 1995, when the Norwegian Naval Officers' Association merged with the Norwegian Shipowners' Union. By 2016, it had more than 8,000 members, and it was focused on improving the pay and welfare of its members, and improving safety at sea. In 2017, the union affiliated to the Norwegian Confederation of Trade Unions. It shares its headquarters, and publishes a magazine, ''Maritim Logg'', jointly with the Norwegian Seafarers' Union and the Norwegian Union of Marine Engineers. Norwegian Confederation Of Trade Unions
The Norwegian Confederation of Trade Unions ( no, Landsorganisasjonen i Norge, LO) is a national trade union center, decidedly the largest and probably the most influential umbrella organization of labour unions in Norway. The 21 national unions affiliated to the LO have almost 1,000,000 members of a Norwegian population of 5 million. The majority of affiliated unions organizes traditional blue collar workers, but the largest affiliate is the Norwegian Union of Municipal and General Employees which makes up more than a third of all members. LO is affiliated to the ITUC and the ETUC. It was named the Workers' National Trade Union ( no, Arbeidernes Faglige Landsorganisasjon, AFL) from 1899 to 1957. Affiliated with the Labour Party throughout its history, several of LO's member unions have concurrently been member bodies in the Labour Party. Norwegian Seafarers' Union
The Norwegian Seafarers' Union, NSU, ( no, Norsk Sjømannsforbund, NSF) is a trade union representing sailors in Norway. The union was established 25 September 1910, as the Norwegian Sailors' and Firemen's Union (Norsk Matros- og Fyrbøter-Union), and immediately affiliated to the Norwegian Confederation of Trade Unions. In 1933, it merged with the Norwegian Stewards' and Cooks' Union, and adopted its current name. The English translation was gradually changed over several years around 2000 from Norwegian Seamen's Union. The change came in order to emphasise NSU's international work for equal opportunities regardless of gender. The NSU is open for all categories of seafarers from Apprentice Seafarer to Master, but mainly organize all groups of ratings both on deck and in engine, the catering personnel, and some groups of officers like the Steward and the Chief Electrician. International Transport Workers' Federation
The International Transport Workers' Federation (ITF) is a democratic global union federation of transport workers' trade unions, founded in 1896. In 2017 the ITF had 677 member organizations in 149 countries, representing a combined membership of 19.7 million transport workers in all industrial transport sectors: civil aviation, dockers, inland navigation, seafarers, road transport, railways, fisheries, urban transport and tourism. The ITF represents the interests of transport workers' unions in bodies that take decisions affecting jobs, employment conditions or safety in the transport industry.
