Norton Bridge Railway Station
Norton Bridge railway station was a railway station located north-west of Stafford on the West Coast Main Line near the village of Norton Bridge, Staffordshire, England. The first station was opened by the Grand Junction Railway in 1837. The station was resited southwards in 1876. Services were temporarily withdrawn in 2004 but never reinstated. The station formally closed in 2017. The main line platforms were removed before electrification in the 1960s when the current island platform was built for Manchester-via-Stoke-on-Trent services. Passenger services ceased in May 2004 when Central Trains services between Stafford and Stoke-on-Trent were withdrawn and replaced by BakerBus route X1. In December 2004 the footbridge was removed in order to improve freight clearances. From 2007, the Office of Rail Regulation did not include it in its station usage figures. Norton Bridge is a village in Staffordshire, England. Until May 2004 it was served by Norton Bridge railway station. Arguably Norton Bridge is a hamlet, as it is in the Parish of Chebsey and does not have its own church. Amenities At present, Norton Bridge has very few amenities for residents. There is a children's park which has been recently upgraded. In addition to the park there is St Luke's which is a small church/village hall and a postbox. Also, Norton Bridge's only public house, "The Railway Inn" has now reopened and serves locally brewed beer. Norton Bridge rail crash The Norton Bridge rail crash occurred on 16 October 2003. An intermodal train hauled by two Freightliner Class 86 (86631 and 86611) locomotives collided with another stationary freight train, after passing a red signal. British Transport Films
British Transport Films was an organisation set up in 1949 to make documentary films on the general subject of British transport. Its work included internal training films, travelogues (extolling the virtues of places that could be visited via the British transport system – mostly by rail), and "industrial films" (as they were called) promoting the progress of Britain's railway network. It was headed by Edgar Anstey until 1974, and from then until its demise by John W. Shepherd.
