North–South Railway
The North–South railway (German: ''Nord-Süd-Strecke'') is an amalgamation of several railway lines in Germany that came to significant importance in West Germany and are therefore commonly regarded as a single entity. During the division of Germany, it was the most important and the most densely used long-distance line of the Deutsche Bundesbahn. Since 1991, after the opening of the Hanover–Würzburg high-speed railway, the line mainly sees local passenger trains, freight trains and night services, as the long-distance services almost exclusively use the new line. History The single lines on the route were quite notable, however the long-distance traffic Hanover– Fulda–Frankfurt/Würzburg was negligible. The North–South connection (french: Jonction Nord-Midi, nl, Noord-Zuidverbinding) is a railway link of national and international importance through central Brussels, Belgium, that connects the major railway stations in the city. It is line 0 (zero) of the Belgian rail network. With 1200 trains a day, it is the busiest railway line in Belgium and the busiest railway tunnel in the world. The North–South Commuter Railway (NSCR), also known as the Clark–Calamba Railway, is a urban rail transit system under construction in the island of Luzon, Philippines. Running from New Clark City in Capas to Calamba, Laguna with 36 stations and four services, the railway was designed to improve connectivity within the Greater Manila Area and will be integrated with the railway network in the region. Originally planned in the 1990s, the railway project has had a tumultuous history, being repeatedly halted and restarted due to various reasons. The first proposal was the "Manila–Clark rapid railway" with Spain in the 1990s that was discontinued after disagreements on funding, and during the 2000s, the NorthRail project with China that was discontinued in 2011 due to allegations of overpricing.
