Northwestern District
The AA Northwestern District is a high school conference in the state of Virginia that includes Frederick County and Warren County. The Northwestern District member schools compete in Region II with the schools from the AA Dulles District, AA Jefferson District, and AA Evergreen District. The Northwestern District was not originally known for being strong in football, yet the 2005 season brought about the dominance of Sherando and Liberty and the emergence of James Wood, Millbrook, and Brentsville as solid football teams. In 2007 Sherando reached the state finals. In basketball, the 2005 Millbrook squad finished second in the region and fell in the state quarterfinals, one year after a last place finish in the district in their inaugural year. In 2008 the Millbrook squad won the state finals bringing the first state championship in basketball to the area. Clarke County High School (Berryville, Virginia)
Clarke County High School is a public high school in Berryville, Virginia. CCHS was ranked 19th on Newsweek's Top 1200 High Schools list in 2006. This used a metric based on the amount of Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate tests taken by all the students in 2005 divided by the amount of graduating seniors. Its courses cover a wide spectrum of advanced levels including the International Baccalaureate program; dual-enrollment courses with Laurel Ridge Community College and AP courses. The Potomac District is a high school conference in the United States Virginia High School League that is made up of mostly schools from Loudoun County that have a high enrollment capacity. History of the District Original District The original Potomac District was founded in 1965 when the Northern Region expanded from two to three districts along with the Alexandria District and the Northern District. The original charter members of the district were Langley, Marshall, McLean, J.E.B. Stuart, Wakefield, Washington-Lee and Yorktown. The district lasted until 1972 due to low membership but was revived in 1975 and then disbanded again in 1994 when the Northern Region realigned the districts. Warren County High School (WCHS) is a high school located in Front Royal, Virginia. The mascot is a ''Wildcat'' and its colors are Maroon and White. Sherando High School is a public secondary school within Frederick County, Virginia, United States, and is part of Frederick County Public Schools. The school is located east of the town of Stephens City. History Sherando High School was opened in August 1993 as the second high school in Frederick County. Millbrook School is a high school located in Winchester, Virginia. The school is one of three high schools in the Frederick County Public School System. It is one of the newest schools in the area, having been established in 2003, intended to relieve overpopulation in nearby James Wood High School and Sherando High School. Schedule Millbrook High School uses a block scheduling system, utilizing Day 1 and Day 2 schedules. Each block is one and a half hours long and meets every other day.
