Northwest Alabama
Northwest Alabama is a subdivision of the North Alabama region, and includes the cities of Florence, Muscle Shoals, Russellvile, Hamilton, Haleyville, and their surrounding areas in the state of Alabama. The region includes one metropolitan area, the Florence-Muscle Shoals Metropolitan Area. The county inclusion varies, usually only consisting of the counties of Colbert, Franklin, Lauderdale, Marion and Winston. Fayette, Lamar, and Lawrence counties are sometimes included, however these areas are usually associated with a separate geographic subdivision of the state, such as West Alabama (Fayette and Lamar) and North Central Alabama (Lawrence). When all county populations are combined, the entire five county region is constituted of 234,101 people. North Alabama
North Alabama is a region of the U.S. state of Alabama. Several geographic definitions for the area exist, with all descriptions including the nine counties of Alabama's Tennessee Valley region. The North Alabama Industrial Development Association also lists Cherokee, Cullman, Franklin, and Winston counties in the region. The Alabama Mountain Lakes Tourist Association expands the definition further to include Blount, Etowah, and Marion counties. Huntsville is the region's largest metropolitan area. Decatur and Florence-Muscle Shoals are classified as metropolitan areas as well. Albertville, Cullman, Fort Payne, and Scottsboro are each the hubs of their own micropolitan regions. Other cities of notable size include Madison and Athens. Locals tend to refer to this area as the "Tennessee Valley" in reference to the Tennessee River, which flows through the northernmost part of the state. Franklin County, Alabama
Franklin County is a county located in the U.S. state of Alabama. As of the 2020 census, the population was 32,113. Its county seat is Russellville. Its name is in honor of Benjamin Franklin, famous statesman, scientist, and printer. It is a dry county, although the city of Russellville is wet. History Franklin County was established on February 6, 1818. Colbert County Colbert County was originally established on February 6, 1867, after it split from Franklin County over political issues after the American Civil War. It was abolished eight months later by an Alabama constitutional convention and then reestablished on February 24, 1870. State Route 24 (Alabama)
State Route 24 (SR 24) is a state highway in the northwestern and north-central part of the state. The western terminus of the route is near Red Bay at the Mississippi state line, where it continues as Mississippi Highway 76 (MS 76). The eastern terminus of the route is near the junction with SR 67 at Decatur, where it continues for 2 miles as Moulton Street. Moulton Street (without SR 24) ends east of US 31. The route is one of several segments that comprises Corridor V of the Appalachian Development Highway System. Once completed, Corridor V will provide a continuous route between Batesville, Mississippi and Chattanooga, Tennessee. U.S. Route 278 (US 278) is a parallel route of U.S. Route 78, US 78. It currently runs for from Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, to Wickes, Arkansas at U.S. Route 71, US 71/U.S. Route 59, US 59, passing through five states in the process. U.S. Route 72 (US 72) is an east–west United States highway that travels for from southwestern Tennessee, throughout North Mississippi, North Alabama, and southeastern Tennessee. The highway's western terminus is in Memphis, Tennessee and its eastern terminus is in Chattanooga. It is the only U.S. Highway to begin and end in the same state, yet pass through other states in between. U.S. Route 43 (US 43) is a north–south United States Highway in the Southern states of Alabama and Tennessee. It travels from Prichard, Alabama, to Columbia, Tennessee. Winston County is a county of the U.S. state of Alabama. As of the 2020 census, the population was 23,540. Its county seat is Double Springs.
