Amos Northup
Amos Northup (October 23, 1889 – February 8, 1937) was an American automotive designer. Regarded as a leader in the field in the United States by the late 1920s, Northup worked for the Wills Sainte Claire, Murray Corporation of America, Hupmobile, American Austin, REO Motor Car Company, REO, Willys-Overland, Willys-Knight, and Graham-Paige automakers during his career. His design for the 1932 Graham-Paige, Graham Bluestreak included a number of revolutionary features in automotive design. Career Northup was employed by cabinet maker C. J. Wadsworth in Painesville, Ohio, early in his career. Then he worked as a designer for automaker Wills Sainte Claire under Childe Wills. Northup joined Murray Corporation of America in 1924 where he was in charge of regular production bodies and Ray Dietrich designed their custom bodies. Anne Northup
Anne Meagher Northup (born January 22, 1948) is an American Republican politician and educator from the Commonwealth of Kentucky. From 1997 to 2007, she represented the Louisville-centered 3rd congressional district of Kentucky in the United States House of Representatives, where she served on the powerful House Appropriations Committee. She lost reelection to Democrat John Yarmuth in the 2006 election. She then ran for Governor of Kentucky, losing by 15 points to embattled governor Ernie Fletcher in the Republican primary election for the 2007 Kentucky gubernatorial election. Prior to her election to the United States House of Representatives, Northup had served in the Kentucky House of Representatives. Diana E. Northup is an American microbiologist, speleologist, ecologist, Visiting Professor of Biology, and Professor Emerita of Library Sciences with the University of New Mexico. Her research focuses on the microbial ecology of caves around the world. Dr. Northup is a Fellow of the National Speleological Society and the Cave Research Foundation. Jeremiah Northup (1816 – April 10, 1879) was a Canadian merchant, shipowner, and politician. Born in Falmouth, Nova Scotia, the son of John Northup and Agnes Harvey, he had ownership of at least seven ships during his lifetime. In 1867, he was elected to the Nova Scotia House of Assembly as an anti-confederate. He was appointed to the Senate of Canada in 1870 representing the senatorial division of Halifax, Nova Scotia. Jeremiah Northup (Nova Scotia Politician)
Jeremiah Northup (died January 1809) was a political figure in Nova Scotia. He represented Falmouth Township in the Legislative Assembly of Nova Scotia from 1773 to 1809. He was the son of Immanuel Northup and Sarah Gould of North Kingston, Rhode Island. He was married three times: to Sophia, Zerviar and Tanya. Northup was one of the first persons granted land in Falmouth township in 1761. He served as a justice of the peace for Falmouth and for King's County. He died in office. Harry E. Northup (born September 2, 1940) is an American actor and poet. As an actor, he made frequent appearances in the films of Martin Scorsese and Jonathan Demme. Personal life and career Northup was born in Amarillo, Texas. He lived in 17 places by age 17, but mostly in Sidney, Nebraska, where he graduated from high school in 1958. From 1958 to 1961 he served in the United States Navy, where he attained the rank of Second Class Radioman. From 1963 to 1968, he studied Method acting with Frank Corsaro in New York City. Nancy Northup (born 1960) is an American political activist. She is the president of the Center for Reproductive Rights, an abortion rights organization, in New York City. Under her leadership, the Center helped win Whole Woman's Health v. Hellerstedt, a U.S. Supreme Court case. Early life and education Northup was born in Kokomo, Indiana in 1960 and grew up in Texas, California and New York. She graduated from Allendale Columbia School in Rochester, New York. Nate Northup (born Grinnell, Iowa) is an American soccer midfielder who currently coaches for the PVSC Exiles. College Northup attended California State University Monterey Bay, playing on the men’s soccer team from 2000 to 2003. He graduated cum laude in 2004 with a bachelor's degree in teledramatic arts and technology. Solomon Northup
Solomon Northup (born July 10, 1807-1808) was an American abolitionist and the primary author of the memoir ''Twelve Years a Slave''. A free-born African American from New York, he was the son of a freed slave and a free woman of color. A farmer and a professional violinist, Northup had been a landowner in Washington County, New York. In 1841, he was offered a traveling musician's job and went to Washington, D.C. (where slavery was legal); there he was drugged, kidnapped, and sold as a slave. He was shipped to New Orleans, purchased by a planter, and held as a slave for 12 years in the Red River region of Louisiana, mostly in Avoyelles Parish. He remained a slave until he met Samuel Bass, a Canadian working on his plantation who helped get word to New York, where state law provided aid to free New York citizens who had been kidnapped and sold into slavery. Stephen Northup
Stephen Northup (roughly 1630 – after 1687) was an early settler of the Colony of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations, and built what may be the oldest house still standing in Rhode Island. Northup was a fairly early settler of Providence in the Rhode Island colony, but accounts claiming that he settled the area with Roger Williams are inaccurate, since Northup was an infant or child when Williams first came to Providence in the spring of 1636. Northup lived in Providence from 1655 to 1666, after which he moved to the Narragansett country (what is now North Kingstown, Rhode Island), which land was claimed by both the Rhode Island and Connecticut colonies. He may have owned or operated a grist mill, and is credited with building a house that still stands and is used as a private residence.
