Northern Karst (Puerto Rico)
The Northern Karst (Spanish: ''Carso norteño'', ''Carso norte'') is a limestone karst landscape located in the northern part of Puerto Rico. A karst is a topographical zone formed by the dissolution of soluble porous rocks, such as limestone, with features such as mogotes, canyons, caves, sinkholes, streams and rivers, all of which are common on this region of the island. Some of the island's main rivers, including its longest ( La Plata River), traverse the karst and form some of the most distinctive Puerto Rican geographical features such as the Camuy caverns. Many of these rivers feed into and are important in the formation of many marshy areas such as the Caño Tiburones wetlands. Isabela, Puerto Rico
Isabela () is a town and municipality of Puerto Rico located in the north-western region of the island, north of San Sebastián; west of Quebradillas; and east of Aguadilla and Moca. Cueva Ventana
Cueva Ventana ( eng, italic=yes, Window Cave) is a large cave situated atop a limestone cliff in Arecibo, Puerto Rico, overlooking the Río Grande de Arecibo valley. It is visible from the PR-123 but is accessible from a trail that begins adjacent to a Puma gas station located along PR-10 on kilometer 75. The cave and surrounding land are privately owned. Tourism The cave is a popular tourist attraction for Puerto Ricans as well as tourists visiting from outside Puerto Rico. An initial admittance fee for Saturday and Sunday visits was established by the owner of a nearby gas station, due to the location's popularity. The number of visitors is at its largest on both Saturdays and Sundays from early morning to an hour before nightfall. Puerto Rico Highway 10
Puerto Rico Highway 10 (PR-10) is a major highway in Puerto Rico. The primary state road connects the city of Ponce in the south coast to Arecibo in the north; it is also the shortest route between the two cities. Construction on the modern PR-10, a new highway, began in 1974. The highway is being built parallel to the old PR-10; that road is now signed PR-123. Most of the new PR-10 is now complete, with an approximately stretch still remaining to be finished. In its current state it is a freeway only in the completed portions, which consists of over three-fourths of the highway. In May 2010, Autoridad de Carreteras estimated the road would be completed in 2015, at a cost of $500 million. Upon completion, the highway is expected to become one of the two major roads on the island that cross the Cordillera Central mountain range. Río Grande De Arecibo
The Río Grande de Arecibo (Arecibo River) is a river of Puerto Rico. The headwaters lie in the mountains to the south of Adjuntas. From there it flows north until it reaches the Atlantic Ocean near Arecibo. The tributaries lie along the side of the Cerro de Punta and the Utuado pluton. It flows through the northern, passing along a gorge that is 200 m deep and 800–1,200 m wide. It flows through the middle of Puerto Rico. Julio Enrique Monagas Park
Julio Enrique Monagas Park (Spanish: ''Parque Julio Enrique Monagas'', sometimes referred to as ''Parque nacional Julio Enrique Monagas'') is an urban state park and recreational area located in Bayamón, Puerto Rico. The park is named after Julio Enrique Monagas, the first director of Puerto Rico's Public Recreation and Parks Commission and also considered the father of the Olympic movement in Puerto Rico. Before its establishment in 1993, the area was a military installation during the Second World War, and many of the bunkers and ammunition warehouses are still preserved within the area.
