Northern Ireland has competed in nineteen of the twenty-one Commonwealth Games beginning with the second games, held in 1934. Northern Ireland did not compete in 1930 (when there was a single team from Ireland) and in 1950. It differs from the Olympic Games where although it officially competes with England, Scotland and Wales as part of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, many athletes have represented the Ireland team. David McCann (cyclist)
David McCann (born 17 March 1973 in Belfast) is an Ireland, Irish former professional road bicycle racer, who rode in the 1996, 2000 and 2012 Olympic Games. He was the Ireland National Cycling Championships, Irish national road race champion in 2000, 2001 and 2006, and won the Irish national time trial championships a record 6 times (2001, 2002, 2004, 2005, 2009 & 2010). He last rode for the Synergy Baku Cycling Project, an Azerbaijan-registered UCI Continental team. Biography In 2005, McCann captured the overall title at the Tour de Korea. Philip Lavery (born 17 August 1990, in Dublin) is an Irish racing cyclist who most recently rode for the team. Lavery won the 2010 Tour of the North and won a bronze medal at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in India, as part of the Northern Irish team pursuit squad. Martyn Irvine (born 6 June 1985) is a Northern Ireland-born former cyclist, who competed professionally between 2008 and 2017 for the Pezula Racing, Planet X, , , and teams, and rode at the 2012 Olympic Games. He was also a directeur sportif for the team. Irvine is a 7-time Irish national track and road cycling champion cyclist, who represented the Irish National track team in the Omnium event at the World Cup Classics, and was world champion in the scratch race in 2013.
