Northeast Classic Car Museum
The Northeast Classic Car Museum is a non-profit educational facility in Norwich, New York that collects and exhibits notable vehicles throughout the history of the United States. The museum opened on Memorial Day, 1997. The museum was founded to encourage tourism in Chenango County, New York. The majority of the museum's collection is from the private collection of George Staley of Lincklaen, New York, who retired from the United States Air Force. The most notable cars that Staley maintained were produced by Franklin (automobile), Franklin, which generated interest from the museum planners. Staley was running out of room for his vehicles when he was approached by the planners. Over 160 vehicles from 1899 through the early 1970s are on display in five connected buildings. Permanent exhibits feature Franklin automobiles, luxury vehicles, post-war vehicles, and cars made in New York State. Other exhibits are featured on a changing basis. References External links * ... Norwich is a city and county seat of Chenango County, New York, United States. Surrounded on all sides by the Town of Norwich,. The name is taken from Norwich, England. Its population was 7,190 at the 2010 census. Lt. Warren Eaton Airport (OIC), serving the area, is located north of the city in the town of North Norwich. History The first log cabin was built in 1788 by Col. William Monroe, who served as a drummer boy during the Revolutionary War. The town of Norwich was formed in 1793 from the towns of Union (now in Broome County) and Bainbridge. Afterwards, Norwich, as a "mother town" of the county, lost substantial territory in the formation of new towns. In 1806, Norwich gave up territory to form the towns of Pharsalia, Plymouth and Preston. More of Norwich was lost in 1807 to form parts of the towns of New Berlin and Columbus. Memorial Day (originally known as Decoration Day) is a federal holiday in the United States for mourning the U.S. military personnel who have fought and died while serving in the United States armed forces. Chenango County is a County (United States), county located in the south-central section U.S. state of New York (state), New York. As of the 2020 United States census, 2020 census, the population was 47,220. Its county seat is Norwich, New York, Norwich. The county's name originates from an Oneida language, Oneida word meaning 'large bull-thistle'. History This was long the territory of the Oneida people, one of the first Five Nations of the Iroquois Confederacy or ''Haudenosaunee''. Lincklaen, New York
Lincklaen is a town in Chenango County, New York, United States. The population was 396 at the 2010 census. The town was named after Colonel John Lincklaen, an agent of the Holland Land Company and a land owner. The town is in the northwestern corner of the county, northwest of the city Norwich and northeast of Cortland (in Cortland County). History The land was first settled ''circa'' 1796. Lincklaen was formed from the town of German in 1823. Parts of the town were removed to form the town of Pitcher in 1827 and 1833. The 1865 population was 988. The Franklin Automobile Company was a marketer of automobiles in the United States between 1902 and 1934 in Syracuse, New York. Herbert H.
