Northcote (New Zealand Electorate)
Northcote is a New Zealand parliamentary electorate, returning one member of parliament to the New Zealand House of Representatives. Currently, the Member for Northcote is Shanan Halbert of the Labour Party, who won the seat at the 2020 election. Population centres Northcote is based around the suburbs of Auckland's North Shore that are closest to the northern end of the Auckland Harbour Bridge. In addition to the eponymous Northcote, there are Birkenhead, Birkdale, Beach Haven and the southern end of Glenfield. It was created ahead of the change to mixed-member proportional (MMP) voting in 1996 by merging the seat of Birkenhead with most of the old Glenfield electorate. A small boundary adjustment was done prior to the , but no further boundary adjustments were undertaken in the subsequent redistributions in 2002, 2007, and 2013/14. 2017 New Zealand General Election
The 2017 New Zealand general election took place on Saturday 23 September 2017 to determine the membership of the 52nd New Zealand Parliament. The previous parliament was elected on 20 September 2014 and was officially dissolved on 22 August 2017. Voters elected 120 members to the House of Representatives under New Zealand's mixed-member proportional (MMP) voting system, a proportional representation system in which 71 members were elected from single-member electorates and 49 members were elected from closed party lists. Grant Gillon
Grant Gillon is a former New Zealand politician. He was a member of parliament between 1996 and 2002, representing the Alliance Party, has held a number of seats in local government. He previously served on the Devonport-Takapuna Local Board representing Shore Action. He is a former senior lecturer in paramedicine and emergency management at the Auckland University of Technology. Dan Bidois
Daniel Michael Bidois (born 1983) is a New Zealand politician and economist who sat as the National Party Member for Northcote in the New Zealand House of Representatives. Bidois was elected on 9 June 2018 as the Member for Northcote. He was a Strategy Manager for Foodstuffs prior to his election. Early life and education Bidois is both of European and Māori descent, adopted into a family of Ngāti Maniapoto descent. He grew up in Howick, Auckland and attended Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Primary School, Howick Intermediate and Howick College. Bidois left Howick College at 15 to pursue a butchery apprenticeship, originally with Seaside Meats. The 2018 Northcote by-election was a New Zealand by-election that was held in on 9 June 2018. The seat became vacant on 15 April 2018, following the resignation of then-Member for Northcote Jonathan Coleman, a member of the New Zealand National Party. Jonathan Coleman (politician)
Jonathan David Coleman (born 23 September 1966) is a retired New Zealand politician and medical practitioner, who most recently served as Minister of Health and for Sport and Recreation under the Fifth National Government. Coleman also served as Minister of Defence and Immigration within the first two terms of that government, and represented the parliamentary constituency Northcote for the National Party from 2005 to 2018. Coleman trained in medicine at the University of Auckland before acquiring an MBA from the London Business School in the United Kingdom. Margaret Ann Hartley (born 1942) is a former New Zealand member of parliament, a former mayor of North Shore City, and a member of the Labour Party. Early years Hartley was born in 1942 in the town of Warkworth. Before entering politics, she was a real estate agent. From 1980 to 1986 she was a member of the Birkenhead City Council, a member of the Child Abuse Prevention Society from 1983 to 1986 and a member of the Auckland Education Board 1984 to 1989. Ian Murray Revell (born 7 February 1948) is a former New Zealand politician. He was an MP from 1990 to 1999, representing the National Party. Before entering politics, Revell was a senior detective in the New Zealand Police. Member of Parliament He was first elected to Parliament in the 1990 election as MP for Birkenhead, defeating the incumbent Jenny Kirk of the Labour Party. Judith Mary Keall (''née'' Dixon, born 10 January 1942) is a former New Zealand politician. She was an MP from 1984 to 1990, and again from 1993 until her retirement in 2002, representing the Labour Party. Biography Dixon was born in Timaru on 10 May 1942. She was first elected to Parliament in the 1984 election, winning the North Shore seat of Glenfield.
