North Yorkshire County Council
North Yorkshire County Council (NYCC) is the county council governing the non-metropolitan county of North Yorkshire; an area composing most of North Yorkshire in England. The council currently consists of 90 councillors. The council is currently controlled by the Conservative Party. The headquarters of the council is county hall in Northallerton. In July 2021 the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government announced that in April 2023, the non-metropolitan county will be reorganised into a unitary authority. The county council will be abolished and its functions transferred to a new authority, North Yorkshire Council. History The council was formed in 1974 when North Riding County Council was abolished. The council occupies County Hall at Northallerton. As a County Council, it is a "top-tier" system that has the responsibility for social care, education and roads. North Yorkshire Council
North Yorkshire Council is a future unitary local authority in England covering most of the ceremonial county of North Yorkshire. The new authority was approved by Parliament on 17 March 2022, and elections to the new council took place on 5 May 2022. On 1 April 2023 the new council will assume responsibility for administrating the area currently administered by North Yorkshire County Council and the district councils of Craven, Hambleton, Harrogate, Richmondshire, Ryedale, Scarborough and Selby. Planning Permission
Planning permission or developmental approval refers to the approval needed for construction or expansion (including significant renovation), and sometimes for demolition, in some jurisdictions. Scarborough (borough)
The Borough of Scarborough () is a non-metropolitan district and borough of North Yorkshire, England. In addition to the town of Scarborough, it covers a large stretch of the coast of Yorkshire, including Whitby and Filey. It borders Redcar and Cleveland to the north, the Ryedale and Hambleton districts to the west and the East Riding of Yorkshire to the south. The district was formed on 1 April 1974, under the Local Government Act 1972. It was a merger of the urban district of Filey and part of the Bridlington Rural District, from the historic East Riding of Yorkshire, along with the municipal borough of Scarborough, Scalby and Whitby urban districts, and Scarborough Rural District and Whitby Rural District, from the historic North Riding. Ryedale
Ryedale is a non-metropolitan district in North Yorkshire, England. It is in the Vale of Pickering, a low-lying flat area of land drained by the River Derwent. The Vale's landscape is rural with scattered villages and towns. It has been inhabited continuously from the Mesolithic period. The economy is largely agricultural with light industry and tourism playing an increasing role. Towns include Helmsley, Kirkbymoorside, Malton, Norton-on-Derwent, and Pickering. Part of Ryedale lies within the North York Moors National Park. The A64 passes through Ryedale and villages such as Rillington. In the 2011 Census, the population of this primarily rural area of 150,659 hectares, the largest district in North Yorkshire, was 51,700. Hambleton District
Hambleton is a local government district in North Yorkshire, England. The administrative centre is Northallerton, and the district includes the outlying towns and villages of Bedale, Thirsk, Great Ayton, Stokesley, and Easingwold. The district was formed by the Local Government Act 1972 on 1 April 1974, as a merger of Northallerton Urban District, Bedale Rural District, Easingwold Rural District, Northallerton Rural District, and parts of Thirsk Rural District, Stokesley Rural District and Croft Rural District, all in the North Riding of Yorkshire. Geography Hambleton covers an area of 1,311.17 km² most of which, 1,254.90 km², is green space. Craven District
Craven is a local government district of North Yorkshire, England centred on the market town of Skipton. In 1974, Craven District was formed as the merger of Skipton urban district, Settle Rural District and most of Skipton Rural District, all in the West Riding of Yorkshire. The population of the Local Authority area at the 2011 Census was 55,409. It comprises the upper reaches of Airedale, Wharfedale, Ribblesdale, and includes most of the Aire Gap and Craven Basin. The name Craven is much older than the modern district, and encompassed a larger area. This history is also reflected in the way the term is still commonly used, for example by the Church of England. Keane Charles Duncan is an English Conservative politician who served as Leader of Ryedale District Council from May 2019 to February 2021. He lives in Malton and works as a deputy news editor for the '' Daily Star''. Duncan became Leader at the age of 24, making him the youngest Council Leader in the country. 2022 North Yorkshire Council Election
The 2022 North Yorkshire Council election took place on 5 May 2022, alongside the other local elections. These will be the last elections to North Yorkshire County Council, and the elected councillors will also serve as the first councillors on the North Yorkshire Council (a new unitary authority), which will replace the existing county council in April 2023. The scheduled 2021 North Yorkshire County Council elections were not held due to the restructure of local government in the county.
