North Tonawanda High School (NTHS) is a public high school located in North Tonawanda, New York. N.T.H.S. is the high school for the North Tonawanda City School District. The current principal is Bradley Rowles. Academics Academies North Tonawanda High School houses five smaller career academies: The Academy of Business and Finance, The Academy of Engineering & Architecture, the Academy of Information Technology, the Academy of International Studies, and the Academy of Health Science. Each academy accepts around twenty new students each school year, wherein each student takes a track of classes within that discipline to prepare students for further exploration of that career strand in college. North Tonawanda, New York
North Tonawanda is a city in Niagara County, New York, United States. The population was 31,568 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Buffalo–Niagara Falls Metropolitan Statistical Area. The city is named after Tonawanda Creek, its south border. Tonawanda in the Seneca tongue means "Swift Running Water". Tonawanda Creek, which flows into the Niagara River, once had large stretches of rapids (see Rapids, New York) until it was tamed with the construction of the Erie Canal. The city also calls itself "The Lumber City," due to its past primary industry and once was the largest port on the Great Lakes during the height of the Erie Canal. Along Goundry Street are mansions built for the lumber barons, including 208 Goundry Street, called "Kent Place", designed by Stanford White. Many of the local residents refer to it as "The Jewel of Niagara County" due to its geographical setting between the Niagara River and Erie Canal. Orchard Park High School
Orchard Park High School is a secondary school in Orchard Park, New York. The school has approximately 1725 children in grades 9–12. The students are divided among three houses with a principal for each house and a principal who oversees the entire school. History and description of campus The main portion of the current high school building was completed in 1960 and served until 1976 as the junior high school. In 1976, a large addition and renovation process doubled the size of the building, and it became the high school. The old junior high gym became the pool and the gym was added adjacent to it. Also built was a three-story classroom addition and an auditorium adjacent to the original building. (The former high school became a middle school, which currently houses grades 6–8.) Earl Valiquette
Earl J. Valiquette (June 16, 1921 – June 18, 1975) was a Canadian football player who played for the Hamilton Wildcats, Edmonton Eskimos and Hamilton Tiger-Cats. Born in Ontario, Canada, Valiquette took up football at North Tonawanda High School in New York and played semi-professionally prior to his service with the United States Navy during World War II. Upon his return from the conflict, he played for the Hamilton Wildcats for three seasons, before making a move to the Edmonton Eskimos in 1950 that was contested by his former team. He returned to Hamilton after one year and played with the newly merged Tiger-Cats for the final two seasons of his playing days. By profession, he had a career with the Carborundum Company in the United States, and was its plant manager in Logan, Ohio at the time of his death in June 1975. Roman John "Ray" Piskor (August 19, 1917 – August 1981) was an American football American football (referred to simply as football in the United States and Canada), also known as gridiron, is a team sport played by two teams of eleven players on a rectangular field with goalposts at each end. The offense, the team with ... tackle (American football), tackle who played three seasons in the All-America Football Conference (AAFC) between 1946 and 1948. Piskor played for the New York Yankees (AAFC), New York Yankees, Cleveland Browns and the Chicago Rockets. Piskor grew up in North Tonawanda, New York and attended Niagara University, where he was a star lineman. After several years in the United States Air Force, Army Air Force during World War II, he was signed by the Yankees in 1946.
