North Shore Philharmonic Orchestra
The North Shore Philharmonic Orchestra was originally formed in 1946 as the Lynn Symphony Orchestra by a group of 15 North Shore musicians. The Orchestra assumed the name North Shore Philharmonic Orchestra in the fall of 1947, and commenced a musical legacy which celebrated its Sixtieth Anniversary in 2007. The Orchestra played its first concert in 1947 under founding conductor Rolland Tapley. The Orchestra has performed continuously since then under just three Music Directors: Mr. Tapley, a Boston Symphony Orchestra violinist, led the Orchestra from 1947 to 1972. He handed the baton to his Boston Symphony Orchestra colleague Max Hobart in 1973, who led the Orchestra until 1996. Following two seasons of guest conductors, current Music Director Robert Lehmann assumed the Orchestra's leadership. Max Hobart
Max Hobart is an American conductor and violinist. He is currently the Musical Director of the Wellesley Symphony Orchestra and was formerly the music director of the Boston Civic Symphony. Originally from Nebraska, Hobart grew up in Bell Gardens, California where he learned to play the violin. He later had private study with guitarist John Williams. Joseph Silverstein
Joseph Harry Silverstein (March 21, 1932 – November 21, 2015) was an American violinist and conductor. Known to family, friends and colleagues as "Joey", Silverstein was born in Detroit. As a youth, Silverstein studied with his father, Bernard Silverstein, who was a public school music teacher. He began studies at the Curtis Institute of Music at age 12. His teachers included Efrem Zimbalist, D.C. Dounis, William Primrose, Josef Gingold, and Mischa Mischakoff. Although he never formally completed his high school education, Silverstein did graduate from Curtis in 1950. Following completion of his studies at Curtis, Silverstein played as a section musician with the Houston Symphony Orchestra, the Philadelphia Orchestra, and the Denver Symphony Orchestra. Salem Witch Trials
The Salem witch trials were a series of hearings and prosecutions of people accused of witchcraft in colonial Massachusetts between February 1692 and May 1693. More than 200 people were accused. Thirty people were found guilty, 19 of whom were executed by hanging (14 women and five men). One other man, Giles Corey, was pressed to death after refusing to enter a plea, and at least five people died in jail. Arrests were made in numerous towns beyond Salem and Salem Village (known today as Danvers), notably Andover and Topsfield. The grand juries and trials for this capital crime were conducted by a Court of Oyer and Terminer in 1692 and by a Superior Court of Judicature in 1693, both held in Salem Town, where the hangings also took place.
