North Shore is a census-designated place (CDP) in Franklin County, Virginia, Franklin County, Virginia, United States. The community lies along Virginia State Route 616, State Route 616. It is part of the Roanoke, Virginia, Roanoke Roanoke metropolitan area, Metropolitan Statistical Area. Geography North Shore is located in northeastern Franklin County at (37.091605, −79.651248). It occupies a peninsula in Smith Mountain Lake, an impoundment on the Roanoke River. The northeast edge of the CDP follows the Roanoke River arm of the lake, which is also the Bedford County, Virginia, Bedford County line, while the southern and southwestern edge follows the Blackwater River (Roanoke River), Blackwater River and Gills Creek arm. Bedford County is a United States county located in the Piedmont region of the Commonwealth of Virginia. Its county seat is the town of Bedford, which was an independent city from 1968 until rejoining the county in 2013.
