North Sea Link
The North Sea Link is a 1,400MW high-voltage direct current submarine power cable between Norway and the United Kingdom. At it is the longest subsea interconnector in the world. The cable became operational on 1 October 2021. Route The cable runs from Kvilldal, Suldal, in Norway, to Cambois near Blyth in England. The converter station is located near to the cable landfall in East Sleekburn and is connected to the National Grid at the Blyth substation. Technical description The cable is long, and has a capacity of 1,400MW. The estimated cost of the project was €2billion, and it became operational in 2021, as planned. Ulla-Førre
Ulla-Førre is a hydropower complex in Southern Norway. It is situated along the borders of the municipalities of Suldal and Hjelmeland (in Rogaland county) and Bykle (in Agder county), Norway. It has an installed capacity of approximately , and the annual average production is (1987–2006), while its reservoir capacity is about ; at full production, it can last seven to eight months. The complex includes the artificial lake Blåsjø, which is made by dams around above the sea level. The hydroelectric power stations in the complex are Saurdal, Kvilldal, Hylen and Stølsdal, operated by Statkraft. Blåsjø Blåsjø is the tenth largest lake in Norway by area. Easington (district)
Easington was, from 1974 to 2009, a local government district in eastern County Durham, England. It contained the settlements of Easington, Seaham, Peterlee, Murton, Horden, Blackhall, Wingate and Castle Eden. It did not however include Easington Lane which is administered as part of the City of Sunderland. The district was formed on 1 April 1974 by the merger of Seaham urban district with most of Easington Rural District. It had the lowest percentage of foreign-born residents in England at 1.2% (2001 census). The district was abolished as part of the 2009 structural changes to local government in England. An electoral ward in the name of Easington still exists. The population of this ward taken at the 2011 census was 7,693. Nord Pool AS is a pan-European power exchange. Nord Pool has a main office in Oslo and further offices in Stockholm, Helsinki, Tallinn, Berlin and London. Viking Link is a 1,400 MW HVDC submarine power cable under construction between the United Kingdom and Denmark. Current status Land cables and submarine cables are being installed since 2020 and expected to finish in 2023. As of August 2022 Denmark's TSO Energinet expects Viking Link to be commissioned in December 2023. Route The cable will run between Bicker Fen in Lincolnshire, the United Kingdom and Revsing in southern Jutland, Denmark. Nemo Link
Nemo Link is an HVDC submarine power cable between Richborough Energy Park in Kent, the United Kingdom and Zeebrugge, Belgium. The project is a joint venture between British National Grid and Belgian Elia. The electrical interconnector is the first between the two countries, capable of transmitting up to 1,000 MW at 400 kV for an annual transmission capacity of 8.76TWh. The link has been fully operational since 31 January 2019. History In 2015, contracts totalling €500million were awarded to Siemens for the construction of the two onshore HVDC converter stations and to J-Power Systems Corporation for the cable system. The North Sea Offshore Grid, officially the North Seas Countries Offshore Grid Initiative (NSCOGI), was a collaboration between EU member-states and Norway to create an integrated offshore energy grid which links wind farms and other renewable energy sources across the northern seas of Europe. It is one of several proposed European super grid schemes. Since 2016, the cooperation has been integrated into the new Political Declaration on energy cooperation between the North Seas Countries.
