North Of The Yukon (Disney Comics)
"North of the Yukon" is a 24-page Disney comics adventure story featuring Scrooge McDuck and his nephews, Donald Duck and Huey, Dewey, & Louie. It was written and drawn by Carl Barks. This was his last story involving Scrooge's adventures in Alaska. It was published in September 1965, and later reprinted in May 1993. Gemstone Publishing later reprinted the story again in 2005 for a Donald Duck/Uncle Scrooge graphic novel with another story inspired by this one called "Somewhere in Nowhere". The character of Barko was inspired by an actual sled dog named Balto, who participated in the 1925 serum run to Nome. Barks had read an article about Balto in an issue of ''National Geographic'', and was inspired to create this character. Plot The story starts with a photographer from ''Jolt'' magazine, wanting to do a picture story on Scrooge. Tom London (born Leonard T. Clapman; August 24, 1889 – December 5, 1963) was an American actor who played frequently in B-Westerns. According to ''The Guinness Book of Movie Records'', London is credited with appearing in the most films in the history of Hollywood, according to the 2001 book ''Film Facts'', which says that the performer who played in the most films was "Tom London, who made his first of over 2,000 appearances in '' The Great Train Robbery, 1903''. He used his birth name in films until 1924. Life and career Born in Louisville, Kentucky, London got his start in movies as a props man in Chicago, Illinois. Hector William "Harry" Cording (26 April 1891 – 1 September 1954) was an English-American actor. He is perhaps best remembered for his roles in the films '' The Black Cat'' (1934) and ''The Adventures of Robin Hood'' (1938). Life and career Cording was born Hector William Cording on 26 April 1891 in Wellington, Somerset. He was brought up and was educated at Rugby, and he was a member of the English Army in World War I. In 1919, he became steward for a British steamship line whose ships, such as the ''Vauban'' and the ''Calamares'', which he had worked on, frequently called at the Port of New York.
