North Lake (Western Australia)
North Lake () is a freshwater lake in the suburb of North Lake, located south of the central business district of Perth, the capital of Western Australia, and from the Indian Ocean. The suburb and lake are located within the City of Cockburn local government area. It is part of the northernmost lake within a chain of lakes which make up the Beeliar Regional Park (North Lake, Bibra Lake, South Lake, Booragoon Lake, Yangebup Lake, and Thomsons Lake). The lake has been known by this name since 1877, and the name was approved for the suburb in 1954. Beeliar Regional Park
Beeliar Regional Park is a conservation park approximately south of the central business district in Perth, Western Australia, located within the Citys of Cockburn, Kwinana and Melville. The regional park is named after the indigenous Beeliar people of the area. In Western Australia, regional parks consist of areas of land that have been identified as having outstanding conservation, landscape and recreation values. The park contains remnants of the Beeliar Wetlands, part of the once widespread Swan Coastal Plain. Beeliar is one of eleven regional parks in the Perth region of Western Australia. City Of Cockburn
The City of Cockburn ( ) is a local government area in the southern suburbs of the Western Australian capital city of Perth about south of Fremantle and about south of Perth's central business district. The City covers an area of and had a population of over 104,000 as at the 2016 Census. History Cockburn is named after Cockburn Sound, which was named in 1827 by Captain James Stirling after Admiral Sir George Cockburn. Sir George was born in London in 1772 and was a renowned British naval officer, eventually becoming Admiral of the Fleet and First Sea Lord. Bibra Lake () is a freshwater lake in the suburb of Bibra Lake, located south of the central business district of Perth, the capital of Western Australia. The suburb and lake are located within the City of Cockburn local government area. It is bounded by the Roe Highway reservation to the north, Stock Road to the west, the Kwinana Freeway to the east and the freight rail line to the south. Bibra Lake is the fourth lake (going north to south) of a string of lakes which combined comprise the Beeliar Regional Park. Bibra Lake contains two electric insect traps designed to reduce the number of mosquitoes in the area. Around the lake is a cycle way, which provides access to bird hides. South Lake is a suburb of Perth, Western Australia within the City of Cockburn. South Lake is located approximately south of the Perth CBD. History Established in the early 1980s the suburb's name was proposed by Taylor Woodrow Homes Builders and the City of Cockburn in March 1982 after a previous suggestion (''Oxley'') had been rejected because of duplication.
