North Iowa Cedar League
The North Iowa Cedar League (NICL) is a high school athletic conference made up of 15 high schools in north central and northeast Iowa. Most of the schools compete as 2A schools, (the second-smallest classification). The conference's most recent expansions included: Columbus Catholic (2013), Sumner-Fredericksburg (2014), and Oelwein (2021). With the addition of Oelwein in the 2021 academic year, the conference will split into three divisions: East, Central, and West. History The formation of the North Iowa Cedar League dates back to 1936, when the Iowa Cedar Conference (consisting of Belle Plaine, Brooklyn, Eldora, Grundy Center, Montezuma, Reinbeck, Tama, Teachers' High, Traer, & Toledo) split into the North Iowa Cedar League and South Iowa Cedar League. Iowa High School Athletic Association
The Iowa High School Athletic Association (IHSAA) is the regulating body for male Iowa high school interscholastic athletics and is a full member of the National Federation of State High School Associations. Its female counterpart, the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union, (IGHSAU) is an associate member. Iowa is the only state that maintains separate governing bodies for boys' and girls' athletics. Sports overseen by the IHSAA are baseball, basketball, bowling, cross country, football, golf, soccer, swimming & diving, tennis, track & field, and wrestling. Northern University High School
Northern University High School was a small high school in Cedar Falls, Iowa, United States, run by the University of Northern Iowa. It comprised grades 9-12 of the Pk-12 Malcolm Price Laboratory School. It closed in July 2012 under controversy and university budget cuts, and was mostly demolished in June 2013, save for the athletics Wing, part of which was re-purposed into the UNI Childhood Development center, previously housed in the building's east wing. Waterloo is a city in and the county seat of Black Hawk County, Iowa, United States. As of the 2020 United States Census the population was 67,314, making it the eighth-largest city in the state. Parkersburg is a city in Butler County, Iowa, United States. The population was 2,015 in the 2020 United States Census, 2020 census, an increase from 1,889 in 2000 United States Census, 2000. Union High School is a small rural public high school in La Porte City, Iowa part of the Union Community School District. Union High School enrolled 402 students, taught by 35 faculty, as of 2011. The school day is divided into six periods while the school year functions on three twelve-week trimesters. Sumner-Fredericksburg High School is a rural public high school located in Sumner, Iowa. It is one of four schools within the Sumner-Fredericksburg School District. It was a part of the Sumner Community School District until it consolidated with the Fredericksburg Community School District in 2014. Oelwein Community School District
Oelwein Community School District is a public school district headquartered in Oelwein, Iowa. Occupying sections of Fayette and Buchanan counties, it includes, aside from Oelwein, Hazleton and Stanley. , it had about 1,00 students. History From circa 2001 to 2010, the number of students decreased by 300. Oelwein CSD superintendent Jim Patera stated that this enrollment decline and a 10% decline in money given by the state government put Oelwein CSD in, as paraphrased by Orlan Love of ''The Gazette'' of Cedar Rapids, "a serious financial bind".
