North Danbury Station
North Danbury station is a proposed commuter rail stop on the Danbury Branch of the Metro-North Railroad's New Haven Line, to be located in Danbury, Connecticut. History Plans call for the station to be located at the current park and ride at 67 White Turkey Road Ext, adjacent to the Brookfield-Danbury border. Original plans for the station had surfaced in 2009–2010, when a study was conducted to determine the viability of the station. Although plans had gone under for a while, improvements being made to the line by the State of Connecticut could mean a station in the near future. In September 2020, due to an increase in demand for expansion of commuter rail service to Greater Danbury, the United States Department of Transportation awarded a $400,000 grant to the Western Connecticut Council of Governments to study improvements along the Danbury Branch line and develop a plan for expanding service north. Danbury Branch
The Danbury Branch is a diesel branch of the Metro-North Railroad New Haven Line from downtown Norwalk, Connecticut north to Danbury, mostly single-tracked. It opened in 1852 as the Danbury and Norwalk Railroad. Until the early 1970s, passenger service continued north from Danbury to Canaan, Connecticut and Pittsfield, Massachusetts. Metro-North took over operation of the line from Conrail in 1983. History The Danbury and Norwalk Railroad began operating its line from Norwalk north to Danbury on February 22, 1852. In July 1872 a branch from the mainline at Bethel northeast to Hawleyville opened. At Hawleyville, the branch connected to the Housatonic Railroad, continuing north into Massachusetts. The Metro-North Railroad New Haven Line is a commuter rail line running from New Haven, Connecticut to New York City. It joins the Harlem Line at Mount Vernon, New York and continues south to Grand Central Terminal in Manhattan. The Western Connecticut Planning Region is a planning region and county-equivalent in Connecticut. Connecticut Commuter Rail Council
The Connecticut Commuter Rail Council is an independent state board that acts as an advocate for commuters on the Metro-North, Hartford Line, and Shore Line East railroads in the state of Connecticut. The Council holds regular, public meetings once a month (except in the summer) with Metro-North and Connecticut Department of Transportation (ConnDOT) officials to discuss concerns of commuters.
