North Dakota Highway 3 (ND 3) is a major north–south state highway in North Dakota, United States, that spans the entire state. It travels from South Dakota Highway 45 (SD 45) at the South Dakota state line, south of Ashley north to Manitoba Highway 10 (PTH 10) at the International Peace Garden on the Canada–United States border. Ashley is a city in and the county seat of McIntosh County, North Dakota, United States. The population was 613 at the 2020 census. History Ashley was laid out in 1888 when the Minneapolis, St. Paul and Sault Ste. Marie Railroad was extended to that point. The city was named for Ashley E. Morrow, a railroad man. A post office has been in operation at Ashley since 1888. The McIntosh County Courthouse was built in 1919. Geography Ashley is located at (46.034894, -99.373714). International Peace Garden
The International Peace Garden is a park located adjacent to the International Peace Garden Border Crossing along the Canada–United States border between the province of Manitoba and the state of North Dakota. It was established on July 14, 1932, as a symbol of the peaceful relationship between the two countries. The slogan ''Peace Garden State'' originates from the International Peace Garden, and was added to vehicle registration plates of North Dakota in 1956, In the next year, the North Dakota Legislative Assembly made the slogan an official state nickname. Lake Metigoshe State Park is a public recreation area occupying some on the shores of Lake Metigoshe in the Turtle Mountains, 14 miles northeast of Bottineau, North Dakota, on the Canada–US border.
