North Carolina Highway 48 (NC 48) is a primary state highway in the U.S. state of North Carolina that principally connects the cities of Rocky Mount and Roanoke Rapids. The route offers an alternative to US 301 and I-95. Route description The highway beings on Falls Road at northbound U.S. Route 301 Business in Rocky Mount. A block after passing by southbound US BUS 301 it enters the neighborhood named after the road. The overlap with NC 43 begins just south of an interchange with US 64 at Exit 468B, where the street becomes Benvenue Road entering the Golden East section of the city. This interchange includes an intersection with Hunter Hill Road. A few turns later, NC 43-48 has another interchange with US 301 Bypass. North Carolina Highway 47 (NC 47) is a primary state highway in the U.S. state of North Carolina. It travels east–west through Davidson and Randolph counties; connecting the town of Denton with nearby Lexington and Asheboro. Littleton, North Carolina
Littleton is a town in Halifax County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 674 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina Micropolitan Statistical Area. History Littleton was named after William Little, a state senator at the time of founding. In 1882, Littleton College for women was founded with an initial enrollment of eleven students. The college became relatively successful with a peak enrollment of 285 in 1908. On January 22, 1919, the college was destroyed by fire, and without an endowment, it was never rebuilt. Person's Ordinary and St. Alban's Episcopal Church are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Originally Littleton was divided between the counties of Warren and Halifax, but on July 1, 1974 an election was made to make Littleton only to be a part of Halifax County. North Carolina Highway 43 (NC 43) is a primary state highway in the U.S. state of North Carolina. It connects many towns in the Coastal Plain region. Route description History NC 43 was established around 1928 as a new primary routing between US 17-1/ NC 40, in Rocky Mount, and NC 58, in Liberia. In 1931, NC 43 was extended southeast on new primary routing, through Pinetops, to Greenville; then replaced NC 301 to US 17/ NC 30, in Vanceboro. The Seaboard Air Line Railroad , which styled itself "The Route of Courteous Service," was an American railroad which existed from April 14, 1900, until July 1, 1967, when it merged with the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad, its longtime rival, to form the Seaboard Coast Line Railroad. Predecessor railroads dated from the 1830s and reorganized extensively to rebuild after the American Civil War.
