North Ballarat Football & Netball Club, nicknamed ''The Roosters'', is an Australian rules football and netball club based at Mars Stadium in Ballarat. The club currently fields senior, reserve and Under 19 sides in the Ballarat Football League. Between 1996 and 2017, North Ballarat competed in the Victorian Football League (VFL). History The club was established in 1882, playing in a number of regional competitions before entering Ballarat's "B" grade league as 'North City Football Club' in 1946 where it won its first premiership. In 1952 the club was admitted to the Ballarat Football League (BFL) as 'Ballarat North City' making its first Grand Final appearance in 1959. The Ballarat Football League (BFL) is an Australian rules football competition that operates in the Ballarat region of Victoria, Australia. The competition formed in 1893 as the Ballarat Football Association and was renamed Ballarat Football League in 1908 and was briefly known as the Ballarat-Wimmera Football League between 1934 and 1936. Overview The league features 11 senior clubs. North Ballarat City Football Club joined the league in 2008 season raising the number of teams to the present number. North Ballarat City previously played in the Bendigo Football League for the previous two seasons prior to joining. However, there has not been a league-wide Reserves competition since 1987, when the then-Victorian Football League expanded interstate to become the modern Australian Football League, with the AFL Reserves competition being shut down at the end of the 1999 season. Melton South Football and Netball Club, nicknamed the ''Panthers'', is an Australian rules football and netball club located in Melton. The football squad competes in the Ballarat Football League which is part of the Victorian Country Football League. They have cross town rivals in the Melton Football Club. History The club was formed in 1973 and commenced in the Riddell District Football League. The Bacchus March FL and the Ballarat & District FL had merged but the club with its cross town rival Melton opted to join the Riddell District Football League. The Werribee Football Club, nicknamed the Tigers, is an Australian rules football club, based in Werribee. The club was formed in 1964 and currently plays in the Victorian Football League (VFL). It is the western-most Melbourne-based VFL club as of 2021. History The Werribee Football Club was established in 1964 as part of a bid to enter the Victorian Football Association in 1965.
