North American Farms Airport
North American Farms Airport is a private airport, located 5.6 miles east of Malone, Florida. Overview Opened in March 1992, the airport is used for crop dusting operations and the owner's private use. History Originally constructed by the United States Army Air Forces in 1943 as one of four auxiliary airfields for the pilot training school at Marianna Army Airfield. Its original designation was Bascom Auxiliary Army Airfield #3. The airfield was constructed with two asphalt 5'000 foot runways, each with a parallel taxiway. The airfield was apparently unmanned, had no buildings nor any permanent units assigned. It was used for emergency and for touch-and-go landings as part of the pilot training school. With the end of World War II and the closure of Mariana AAF, the airfield was closed and abandoned. Malone is a town in Jackson County, Florida, United States. The population was 2,088 at the 2010 census. Geography Malone is located in northern Jackson County at . Florida State Road 2 runs through the center of town as 8th Avenue, leading east to the Georgia border at the Chattahoochee River, and west to Campbellton. State Road 71 passes through Malone as 10th Street, crossing State Road 2 in the center of town. SR 71 leads north to the Alabama border and south to Marianna, the Jackson County seat. Graham Air Base was a United States Air Force base located in Marianna, Florida. After it was closed in 1960, it was reused as Marianna Municipal Airport. History Marianna Army Airfield The federal government acquired the airport at the city of Marianna in 1942 and added additional in order to construct the Marianna Army Air Field for the U.S. Army Air Forces. Florida World War II Army Airfields
During World War II, the United States Army Air Forces (USAAF) established numerous airfields in Florida for antisubmarine defense in the western Atlantic and Gulf of Mexico and for training pilots and aircrews of USAAF fighters, attack planes, and light and medium bombers. After early 1944, heavy bomber crews also trained in the State. However two major operations in Florida were the School of Applied Tactics and the air Proving Grounds which tested and developed new capabilities.
