Normandy Hotel
The Normandy Hotel is in Renfrew, Scotland. It is on the A8 road, near Glasgow Airport. Construction of the hotel was completed in 1973. History The hotel opened as ''Stakis Normandy Hotel''. It was part of a portfolio of hotels, health clubs and casinos, known as Stakis Hotels. The group was one of Britain's largest hotel companies. It was owned by Reo Stakis. In February 1999 the Hilton Group bought out Stakis in a deal worth £1.16b. Prior to the sale, many of the Stakis properties were divested to other hotel chains or closed completely, Hilton only retaining the most prestigious such as the Glasgow Grosvenor and the luxury Dunkeld House in Perthshire. Renfrew
Renfrew (; sco, Renfrew; gd, Rinn Friù) is a town west of Glasgow in the west central Lowlands of Scotland. It is the historic county town of Renfrewshire. Called the "Cradle of the Royal Stewarts" for its early link with Scotland's former royal house, Renfrew gained royal burgh status in 1397. As the county town, Renfrew once was a centre of local government for the surrounding area. Whilst the county remained known as "Renfrewshire", the focus of local government gradually shifted from Renfrew to its larger neighbour Paisley. Erskine Bridge Hotel
The MGM Muthu Glasgow River Hotel, formerly the Erskine Bridge Hotel & Spa is situated on the banks of the River Clyde in Erskine, Renfrewshire. The hotel takes its name from the nearby Erskine Bridge and Clyde River. Originally named the Esso Motor Hotel Erskine, it opened in 1971. It was originally planned and owned by the oil company Esso. It was Scotland's second motor based hotel as Esso had already opened another unit in Edinburgh. Ownership The hotel started out as the Esso Motor Hotel of Erskine. Since then it has changed ownership four times. Esso sold the business to the Crest Hotel Group. Then it was sold to the Forte Group of hotels and then to the Cosmopolitan Hotel Group, who renamed the hotel to the Erskine Bridge Hotel & Spa. A8 Road (Scotland)
The A8 is a major road in Scotland, connecting Edinburgh to Greenock via Glasgow. Its importance diminished following the construction of the M8 motorway which also covers the route between Edinburgh and Glasgow. Route and relationship to M8 Edinburgh The A8 begins at the West End of Edinburgh, in the New Town. The road originally also included Princes Street, but this stretch was declassified, as Princes Street is no longer open to all traffic. The road continues westwards into the suburbs of the city passing Murrayfield and Corstorphine, often with an accompanying bus lane. Only once the road reaches the A720 City Bypass does it become a primary route, leading out past the Royal Highland Showground at Ingliston, and Edinburgh Airport. At Newbridge, the A8 meets the start of the M8 and M9 motorways. Stakis Hotels was a hotel company in the United Kingdom led by Sir Reo Stakis, headquartered in Glasgow. History The company was founded by Reo Stakis in the 1930s. It was sold to Hilton Hotels & Resorts, Hilton Group in 2000 for £1.2 billion. Following the sale, many of the Stakis top personnel were retained by Hilton and took some of the senior positions within the company including Sir David Michels the then CEO of Stakis, who went on to become Chief Executive of Hilton Group. Pediment
Pediments are gables, usually of a triangular shape. Pediments are placed above the horizontal structure of the lintel, or entablature, if supported by columns. Pediments can contain an overdoor and are usually topped by hood moulds. A pediment is sometimes the top element of a portico. For symmetric designs, it provides a center point and is often used to add grandness to entrances. The tympanum, the triangular area within the pediment, is often decorated with a pedimental sculpture which may be freestanding or a relief sculpture.
