Norman Ware
Norman Ware (5 March 1911 – 26 August 2003) was an Australian rules footballer in the Victorian Football League (1897–1989), Victorian Football League (VFL). A scrupulously fair, clever and unusually pacy ruckman for Footscray Football Club, Footscray, Ware is the only captain-coach to have won the Brownlow Medal, and is likely to remain so indefinitely, as it would be almost impossible for a captain of an AFL team to act as a coach today, and even so, playing coaches are prohibited under salary cap regulations (instituted in 1987) in order to prevent wealthier clubs from circumventing the restrictions of the salary cap and salary floor. He was recruited from Sale Football Club, Sale. His brother Wally Ware, Wally played for Hawthorn Football Club, Hawthorn. In 2001 Ware was inducted into the Australian Football Hall of Fame. Sale Football Club
The Sale Football Netball Club, nicknamed the ''Magpies'', is an Australian rules football and netball club based in Sale, Victoria and are based at the Sale Oval. The club teams compete in the Gippsland Football Netball League (GFNL). History Founded in 1877, Sale began playing official competitive football in 1889 when they joined the Gippsland Football Association, as a junior side. In 1900, the club entered the senior competition and were premiers for the first time the following year. One of the greatest players produced by the club, Brownlow Medal winner Norman Ware, came to Footscray from Sale in the 1930s. Sale were a foundation member of the Latrobe Valley Football League in 1954. They were the dominant team in the early years of the competition, with four premierships in the first six seasons. The Australian Football Hall of Fame was established in 1996, the Centenary year of the Australian Football League, to help recognise the contributions made to the sport of Australian rules football by players, umpires, media personalities, coaches and administrators. Footscray Football Club
The Western Bulldogs are a professional Australian rules football team that competes in the Australian Football League (AFL), the sport's premier competition.
