Norm Rogers (Australian Rules Footballer)
Norman Angus "Norm" Rogers (born 7 May 1937) is a former Australian rules footballer who played for East Fremantle in the West Australian National Football League (WANFL) during the 1950s and 1960s. Rogers was predominantly a defender and spent most of his time across half back. In 1959 he won East Fremantle's 'Best and Fairest' award and was a member of their premiership teams of 1957 and 1965. For his performance in the losing 1964 Grand Final to Claremont, Rogers won a Simpson Medal. He had a long interstate career with Western Australia and appeared in 27 matches at that level. He was awarded with a spot in the All-Australian team which was named following the conclusion of the 1958 Melbourne Carnival. The defender was non playing coach of East Fremantle in 1967 and 1968. East Fremantle Football Club
The East Fremantle Football Club, nicknamed the Sharks, is an Australian rules football club playing in the West Australian Football League (WAFL) and WAFL Women's (WAFLW). The team's home ground is East Fremantle Oval. East Fremantle are the most successful club in WAFL history, winning 29 premierships since their entry into the competition in 1898. The All-Australian team is an all-star team of Australian rules football in Australia, Australian rules footballers, selected by a panel at the end of each season. It represents a complete team, including an interchange bench, of the best-performed players during the season, led by that season's premiership coach. Australian football, also called Australian rules football or Aussie rules, or more simply football or footy, is a contact sport played between two teams of 18 players on an oval field, often a modified cricket ground. Points are scored by kicking the oval ball between the central goal posts (worth six points), or between a central and outer post (worth one point, otherwise known as a "behind"). During general play, players may position themselves anywhere on the field and use any part of their bodies to move the ball. The primary methods are kicking, handballing and running with the ball. The West Australian Football League (WAFL) is an Australian rules football league based in Perth, Western Australia. 1958 Melbourne Carnival
The 1958 Melbourne Carnival was the 14th edition of the Australian National Football Carnival, an Australian rules football interstate competition. It was the last carnival to be hosted by the state of Victoria and was also known as the Centenary Carnival as it celebrated 100 years since the creation of the sport. For the first time since the 1950 Brisbane Carnival, all nine eligible teams in both Section 1 and Section 2 competed at the carnival. Section 1 consisted of two Victorian teams from the (VFL and VFA), South Australia, Western Australia and Tasmania; Section 2 consisted of New South Wales, Canberra, Queensland and the Australian Amateurs. The Fremantle Team of Legends was selected to recognise legends of Australian rules football in Fremantle, Western Australia. Selection criteria The main selection criteria for players selected in the team was that they must have played 100 games for either of the Fremantle-based WAFA/WAFL/WANFL clubs. The players must have also been significant figures in Australian rules football and their club(s).
