Norm Marlborough
Norman Richard Marlborough (born 12 August 1945) is a former Australian politician. Biography Originally from England, Marlborough was born in Westow, Yorkshire, and arrived in Western Australia in 1963. Before he entered parliament, he was a fitter and turner and later a union official. He was elected as a Labor Party member of the Western Australian Legislative Assembly for the seat of Cockburn at a by-election on 7 June 1986, following the death of Clive Hughes. In 1989, he transferred to the new seat of Peel after a redistribution. Marlborough served in a number of Shadow portfolios and then in Government in Parliamentary Secretary roles. Cockburn is an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of Western Australia. The district is based in Perth's south-western suburbs. William Ian Thomas (born 18 September 1950) is a former Australian politician. He was born in Perth and was a union official and ministerial officer before entering politics. In 1986 he was elected to the Western Australian Legislative Assembly as the Labor member for Welshpool Welshpool ( cy, Y Trallwng) is a market town and community in Powys, Wales, historically in the county of Montgomeryshire. The town is from the Wales–England border and low-lying on the River Severn; its Welsh language name ''Y Trallwng'' m ..., moving to Cockburn in 1989. Brian Thomas Burke (born 25 February 1947) is an Australian former politician who was the 23rd premier of Western Australia from 25 February 1983 to his resignation on 25 February 1988. He was a member of the Western Australian Legislative Assembly from 30 March 1973 to 25 February 1988, representing the electoral districts of Balga and Balcatta at various points, and was the leader of the Australian Labor Party in Western Australia from 18 September 1981 to 25 February 1988. Burke studied law at the University of Western Australia for one year before dropping out. During the 1960s and early 1970s, he worked as a journalist for ''The West Australian'' newspaper, 6PM radio station, and Seven News Perth. The Western Australian Legislative Assembly, or lower house, is one of the two chambers of the Parliament of Western Australia, an Australian state. Peel was an Electoral districts of Western Australia, electoral district of the Western Australian Legislative Assembly, Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of Western Australia from 1989 to 2008. The district was based in the south-western suburbs of Perth. Peel was at all times a safe Australian Labor Party (Western Australian Branch), Labor seat. History Peel was first created for the 1989 Western Australian state election, 1989 state election. It was won by Labor candidate Norm Marlborough, who retained the seat at all subsequent elections. 2007 by-election Marlborough resigned in late 2006 amidst a corruption scandal.
