Norm Busbridge
Joseph Norman Busbridge (23 October 1887 – 27 June 1953) was an Australian rules footballer who played with Essendon in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Family The son of William Ethebert Busbridge (1861-1937) and Margaret Jane Busbridge (1870-1895), née Smith, and the brother of Bill Busbridge, he was born on 23 October 1887. He died on 27 June 1953. He married Emma Mary Fletcher Hollingworth (1883-1949) on 12 April 1911. They had a son, Ronald (1917-). Essendon is a suburb in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, north-west of Melbourne's Central Business District, located within the City of Moonee Valley local government area. Essendon recorded a population of 21,240 at the 2021 census. Essendon is bounded in the west by Hoffmans Road, in the north by Keilor Road and Woodland Street, in the east by the Moonee Ponds Creek, and in the south by Buckley Street (except for a small section further south bordering Moonee Ponds). Australian football, also called Australian rules football or Aussie rules, or more simply football or footy, is a contact sport played between two teams of 18 players on an oval field, often a modified cricket ground. Points are scored by kicking the oval ball between the central goal posts (worth six points), or between a central and outer post (worth one point, otherwise known as a "behind"). Essendon Football Club
The Essendon Football Club, nicknamed the Bombers, is a professional Australian rules football club. The club plays in the Australian Football League (AFL), the game's premier competition. The club was formed by the McCracken family in their Ascot Vale, Victoria, Ascot Vale home "Alisa", and while the exact date is unknown, it is generally accepted to have been in 1872. The club’s first recorded game took place on 7 June 1873 against a Carlton Second 20. Australian Football League
The Australian Football League (AFL) is the only fully professional competition of Australian rules football. Through the AFL Commission, the AFL also serves as the sport's governing body and is responsible for controlling the laws of the game. Originally known as the Victorian Football League (VFL), it was founded in 1896 as a breakaway competition from the Victorian Football Association (VFA), with its inaugural season commencing the following year. Bill Busbridge
William Ethelbert Busbridge (31 January 1885 – 12 June 1943) was an Australian rules footballer who played with Essendon in the early days of the Victorian Football League (VFL). A centre half back and part-time ruckman, he was also known by his nickname "Buzzy". Family One of seven children (one of whom was Norm Busbridge), Busbridge was born to William Ethebert Busbridge (1861–1937) and Margaret Jane Busbridge (1870–1895), née Smith, in the Essendon district on 31 January 1885. He married Ethel Essendon Dean (1888–1971) on 14 December 1912. They had one surviving son, Keith Ethelbert (1917–1985). Busbridge died in a Geelong private hospital on 12 June 1943, and was cremated at Fawkner Crematorium on 14 June 1943. Essendon (Association) Football Club (often shortened to Essendon 'A') was an Australian rules football club which played in the Victorian Football Association (VFA) from 1900 until 1921.
