Norm Batherson
Norman Batherson (born March 27, 1969) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey player. Batherson had a long career in the North American minor leagues and European leagues. He was also a member of the 1993 Acadia Axemen Canadian University men's ice hockey champions. Personal biography Batherson was born in North Sydney, Nova Scotia. He is the father of professional ice hockey player Drake Batherson. After ice hockey, he, his wife Deeann and children Drake and Anna, returned to the Annapolis Valley in Nova Scotia. Batherson works for the Nova Scotia Dept. of Justice and was an assistant coach with St. Francis Xavier University. He currently lives in New Minas, Nova Scotia. Batherson's brother-in-law is former professional ice hockey player Dennis Vial. His daughter Anna is a junior player in the Provincial Women's Hockey League with Kingston, Ontario's Junior Ice Wolves. The Valley Wildcats are a Canadian junior ice hockey franchise from the Annapolis Valley region of Nova Scotia. The team is a member of the Maritime Junior A Hockey League and plays in the EastLink Division. They play their home games in the Kings Mutual Century Centre in Berwick, Nova Scotia. History The Antigonish Bulldogs were founded in 1967 as members of the Antigonish-Pictou-Colchester Junior B Hockey League. After two seasons the league became the Northumberland Junior B Hockey League. In 1974, the Bulldogs became a founding member of what became the Eastern Junior A Hockey League, but returned to the Northumberland League in 1975. The Bulldogs would win league titles and provincial titles in 1979, 1981, 1982, 1983, 1984, and 1985. The Straubing Tigers are a professional men's ice hockey team, based in Straubing, Germany, that competes in the Deutsche Eishockey Liga. Straubing plays its home games at the Eisstadion am Pulverturm, which has a capacity of 5,800 spectators. Promoted to the DEL in 2006, and operating with one of the league's smallest budgets, the team could finish no better than twelfth before the 2011–12 DEL season, when it reached the semi-finals of the playoffs. Calder Cup
The Calder Cup is the trophy awarded annually to the playoff champions of the American Hockey League. It was first presented in 1937 to the Syracuse Stars. The cup is made of sterling silver mounted on a base of Brazilian mahogany.
