Nordic Championships (field Hockey)
The Nordic Championships often refers to a number of sporting competitions for Nordic countries. For some of the competitions they are the top achievement in a sport or contest for Nordic athletes. Nordic Countries
The Nordic countries (also known as the Nordics or ''Norden''; literal translation, lit. 'the North') are a geographical and cultural region in Northern Europe and the Atlantic Ocean, North Atlantic. It includes the sovereign states of Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden; the autonomous administrative division, autonomous territories of the Faroe Islands and Greenland; and the autonomous region of Åland. Nordic Marathon Championships
The Nordic Marathon Championships was an irregularly-held men's competition over the marathon distance between athletes from the Nordic countries. All five Nordic countries took part in the competitions and all five played host to the tournament, with Iceland being the last nation to do so in 1969. Finland was the most successful nation at the championships, with only two of the race winners coming from elsewhere. The only other countries to reach the medal table were Sweden and Norway. It was inaugurated in 1949 and was held on a biennial basis until 1959. It was incorporated into the Nordic Athletics Championships for the 1961, 1963 and 1965 editions. The event re-emerged as a separate annual competition alongside the Nordic Combined Events Championships between 1967 and 1970. The last three marathons were held in 1975, 1977 and 1979. IPSC Nordic Handgun Championship
The IPSC Nordic Handgun Championship is an IPSC level 3 championship hosted in every year either in Norway, Sweden, Finland or Denmark. Until 2017 the championships were held annually in all divisions. But from 2018 onward championships in Open and Production division will be held even years and championships in Classic, Revolver and Standard divisions uneven years. Nordic Under-20 Athletics Championships
The Nordic Junior Athletics Championships ( no, Nordisk juniormesterskap i friidrett) is an annual outdoor track and field competition for athletes under-20 from the Nordic countries – Sweden, Norway, Finland, Denmark, and Iceland. Athletes must be 19 years of age or younger by December 31 of the year the championship is held. Finland and Sweden have chosen to set a lower age limit of 18, except for athletes competing in relay (athletics), relay races only. Norway, Denmark and Iceland have chosen not to have a lower age limit. The competition was founded in 1950 as the Nordic U21 Junior Match. For much of its early history, it was a competition between Finland, Sweden and Norway only, with that being the arrangement until 1983, with exceptions of the 1962, 1964, and 1979 championships. Nordic Indoor Race Walking Championships
The Nordic Indoor Race Walking Championships ( no, Nordisk mesterskap i kappgang innendørs) was a biennial one-day competition in indoor racewalking between athletes from the Nordic countries organised by Nordic Athletics. The Nordic Combined Events Championships ( no, Nordisk mesterskap i mangekamp) was an annual two-day competition in combined track and field events between athletes from the Nordic countries organised by Nordic Athletics. Nordic Cross Country Championships
The Nordic Cross Country Championships is an annual international cross country running competition that is contested between the Nordic countries. The championships are generally held in mid-November and the host nation rotates every year between the Nordic countries. Established in 1997, the championships comprises four separate races: the men's senior and junior competitions (9 kilometres and 6 km respectively), and a senior and junior competition for women (7.5 km and 4.5 km). The women's senior race was previously the same length as the junior race, but this was modified in 2008. The distances are approximate and vary slightly from year to year depending on the course.
