Nord 2.311 to 2.380, were 4-4-0T locomotives for suburban passenger traffic of the ''Chemins de Fer du Nord''. The machines were built in 1892–1893. They were nicknamed "Ravachol" because of the entry into service of the series when the latter was arrested in April 1892. History The locomotives were put into service starting in 1892 to power services the Nord and Nord-Belge lines. They were numbered 2.311 to 2.380 by the Nord. The 70 locomotives were built by four companies: Société Alsacienne de Constructions Mécaniques, Société Franco-Belge, Fives-Lille, and Schneider et Cie. The Chemins Company is a dietary supplement manufacturer based in Colorado Springs, Colorado. The company, founded in 1974 by James Cameron, became embroiled in a series of criminal investigations in 1994 after a woman died and more than 100 other people became ill after taking one of the company’s products marketed under the brand name Nature's Nutrition Formula One. The adverse events were later linked to the product having been tainted with ephedrine. Belpaire Firebox
The Belpaire firebox is a type of firebox used on steam locomotives. It was invented by Alfred Belpaire of Belgium in 1864. Today it generally refers to the shape of the outer shell of the firebox which is approximately flat at the top and square in cross-section, indicated by the longitudinal ridges on the top sides. However, it is the similar square cross-section inner firebox which provides the main advantages of this design i.e. it has a greater surface area at the top of the firebox where the heat is greatest, improving heat transfer and steam production, compared with a round-top shape. The flat firebox top would make supporting it against pressure more difficult (e.g. by means of girders, or stays) compared to a round-top. However, the use of a similarly shaped square outer boiler shell allows simpler perpendicular stays to be used between the shells.
