Norbert Dumas
Norbert Dumas (October 22, 1812 – April 19, 1869) was a lawyer and political figure in Canada East. He represented Leinster in the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Canada from 1848 to 1851. He was born in Terrebonne, the son of Antoine Dumas and Marie-Rose Roy, was admitted to the Lower Canada bar in 1834 and set up practice in Montreal. In 1844, he married Magdeleine-Émilie-Alphonsine, the daughter of Joseph Roy. Dumas did not run for reelection to the assembly in 1851. Canada East
Canada East (french: links=no, Canada-Est) was the northeastern portion of the United Province of Canada. Lord Durham's Report investigating the causes of the Upper and Lower Canada Rebellions recommended merging those two colonies. The new colony, known as the Province of Canada, was created by the Act of Union 1840 passed by the Parliament of the United Kingdom, having effect in 1841. For administrative purposes, the new Province was subdivided into Canada West and Canada East. The former name of "Lower Canada" came back into official use in 1849, and as of the Canadian Confederation of 1867 it formed the newly created province of Quebec. The Legislative Assembly of the Province of Canada was the lower house of the legislature for the Province of Canada, which consisted of the former provinces of Lower Canada, then known as Canada East and later the province of Quebec, and Upper Canada, then known as Canada West and later the province of Ontario. It was created by The Union Act of 1840. Canada East and Canada West each elected 42 members to the assembly. The upper house of the legislature was called the Legislative Council. The first session of parliament began in Kingston in Canada West in 1841. The second parliament and the first sessions of the third parliament were held in Montreal. Terrebonne () is an off-island suburb of Montreal, in southwestern Quebec, Canada. It is located in the North Shore region of the Montreal area, north of Laval across the Rivière des Mille-Îles. This city is divided in three sectors, namely Lachenaie, La Plaine and Terrebonne. In the past, these sectors were distinct cities, but, on 22 August 2001, they merged under the name of ''Terrebonne''. Joseph Roy (Lower Canada Politician)
Joseph Roy (1771 – July 31, 1856) was a wood carver, businessman and political figure in Lower Canada. He was born Joseph-Marie Roy at Saint-Henri-de-Mascouche in 1771, the son of farmer Charles Roy, and apprenticed at Montreal as a woodcarver. Around 1804, he opened a general store in Montreal. He served in the local militia during the War of 1812, later becoming captain. In 1819, he married Émélie-Sophie, the daughter of merchant Charles Lusignan. Roy was a justice of the peace but lost this position when he swore out warrants for the arrest of two British soldiers implicated in the deaths of three supporters of Daniel Tracey in 1832. He served on the town council for Montreal. In 1834, he was elected to the Legislative Assembly of Lower Canada for Montreal East as a member of the parti patriote. Queen's Counsel
In the United Kingdom and in some Commonwealth of Nations, Commonwealth countries, a King's Counsel (Post-nominal letters, post-nominal initials KC) during the reign of a king, or Queen's Counsel (post-nominal initials QC) during the reign of a queen regnant, queen, is a lawyer (usually a barrister or advocate) who is typically a senior trial lawyer. Technically appointed by the monarch of the country to be one of 'His [Her] Majesty's Counsel learned in the law', the position originated in England and Wales.
