Nora Vargas
Nora E. Vargas (born 1970/1971) is an American politician serving as a member of the San Diego County Board of Supervisors from District 1 since 2021. She is the first immigrant and first Latina elected to the body. Early life and education Vargas was born in Tijuana, Mexico, and grew up in Southern San Diego County. She graduated from Montgomery High School then attended Southwestern College before transferring to the University of San Francisco where she earned a Bachelor's degree in political science. She holds a Masters of Arts in women's studies from Claremont Graduate University. She has worked at various non-profit organizations and was Vice President of community and governmental relations at Planned Parenthood of the Pacific Southwest. Governor Jerry Brown appointed her to the California State Teachers' Retirement System in 2015 and she served on the Southwestern College board. The San Diego County Board of Supervisors is the legislative branch of the county government of San Diego County, California. Though officially nonpartisan, three Democrats and two Republicans currently comprise the Board of Supervisors, with the latest election occurring in 2020. Montgomery High School (San Diego)
Montgomery High School (MOH) is a four-year (grade levels 9–12) public high school located in the city of San Diego, California. It opened in 1970 and is situated today on its original campus in Otay Mesa. Montgomery High School serves more than 2,500 students and is named after pioneer aviator John J. Montgomery, who made the first manned glider flight in U.S. history from a hill in the area where the school is located. In 1975, Tagalog class was first offered as a foreign language in California at Montgomery. Ben Hueso
Benjamin "Ben" Hueso (born September 2, 1969) is an American politician currently serving in the California State Senate. A Democrat, he represents the 40th Senate District, which encompasses Imperial County and the border regions of San Diego County. Hueso is currently serving as Chair of the California Latino Legislative Caucus. He previously served as Vice-Chair from 2015 to 2016. Hueso was elected to the State Senate in a 2013 special election to replace then-Senator Juan Vargas, who was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in November 2012.
