Nora Drummond
Nora Drummond (1862-1949), also known as Norah Drummond and Norah Drummond-Davies, was an English, and later Canadian, artist and illustrator, whose work typically featured dogs and country pursuits. Life Nora Georgina Drummond was born in Bath, Somerset in 1862 She was a member of an artistic family, her father being a former Master of the Bath School of Art and Design and an art tutor to the Royal Family, and her mother the daughter of the artist James Hardy (1801-1879). Her maternal uncle, James Hardy Jr (1832-1889), was a painter of rustic landscapes and hunting scenes, who exhibited regularly at the Royal Academy and the British Institution. Another uncle, Heywood Hardy (1842-1933) was also an artist, specialising in animals and landscapes. In 1893 Drummond married Daniel Joseph F. Bath () is a city in the Bath and North East Somerset unitary area in the county of Somerset, England, known for and named after its Roman-built baths. At the 2021 Census, the population was 101,557. Bath is in the valley of the River Avon, west of London and southeast of Bristol. The British Institution (in full, the British Institution for Promoting the Fine Arts in the United Kingdom; founded 1805, disbanded 1867) was a private 19th-century society in London formed to exhibit the works of living and dead artists; it was also known as the Pall Mall Picture Galleries or the British Gallery. Unlike the Royal Academy it admitted only connoisseurs, dominated by the nobility, rather than practising artists to its membership, which along with its conservative taste led to tensions with the British artists it was intended to encourage and support. Heywood Hardy (25 November 1842 – 20 January 1933) was a British artist, in particular an animal painter and painter of horse riding scenes. He also painted landscapes and portraits, especially equestrian portraits. Early life Heywood Hardy was born on 25 November 1842 at Chichester in Sussex, the youngest of ten children of the artist James Hardy senior (1801 – 1879) and his wife Elizabeth. Before he became an artist his father was Principal Trumpet in the Private Band of Music of King George IV. Other artists in the family included Heywood's elder brothers, James junior and David, his sister Ada and his cousins, Frederick Daniel Hardy and George Hardy. Peter and Catharine Whyte were twentieth-century Canadian artists from Banff, Alberta known for their landscape paintings of the Canadian Rockies. Their paintings and extensive collection of regional artifacts formed the genesis of what would later become the Whyte Museum of the Canadian Rockies. Victoria Sketch Club
The Victoria Sketch Club is a Canadian arts organization, the oldest Canadian arts group west of Ontario. It was established in 1909 as The Island Arts Club. The 56 charter members included Emily Carr, Samuel Maclure and Josephine Crease. The club's stated purpose was "to bring together artists and those interested in art; to hold public exhibitions of art and craft work; and to stimulate general interest in arts and crafts". It was renamed the Island Arts and Crafts Society in 1912. Most early members were immigrants from Britain and were interested in portraying the local scenery.
